It has been my sincere pleasure to reach out to Mr. Wendell Sammet of Dalmatia Dalmatians. For those in need of introduction, Mr. Wendell Sammet began his dog career immediately after the Second World War in 1946 with a Dalmatian who in 1949, won the first New England Ten Mile Road Trial.

From a legal standpoint, pets are property. Compensation is based on an animal’s monetary value. Even exceptional show or working dogs are seldom valued at more than $30.000. Infrequent cases that have scored non-economic damages were usually overturned on appeal.

For example, what happened to the value of winning Best of Breed? When did the emphasis shift to Group and Best In Show wins? How did the records get so totally out of this world? Who would have ever dreamed that the day would come when 100 Bests In Show would be an attainable goal for a top dog — yet the record is now well over 200! 275 to be exact! And 100 has become a bit ho-hum!
