As I was growing up, Sunday nights were spent as a family watching the Ed Sullivan Show on television. Live from the Ed Sullivan Theater in midtown Manhattan, wholesome entertainment filled the hour.

Anyone who asserts that breeding and showing dogs is exclusively about dogs and not related to the ego of the human is naive. Competition is a constant and inseparable part of human life.

The World Dog Show 2017 was held in Leipzig, Germany on November 9 through November 12. Every year, a different member country of the FCI (the Federacion Cynologique Internationale) organizes the World Dog Show; every member country may choose to compete for the right to hold the World Dog Show, and the voting by all member countries is held annually, 4 or so years in advance.

Judging is not an entitlement. Judging becomes a farce if the person pointing has less experience in the breed than most of the other people in the ring. Judging, and specifically lack of breed-specific knowledge, is the #1 source of complaints from exhibitors.

We’ve all done something that causes our canine friends to question our intelligence. they don’t speak english, they just give us ‘The Look’.
