The very first Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, two of them, arrived here from Ireland in 1946. Interest in the breed was not forthcoming however, and, although they were shown the following year at Westminster, early efforts to earn breed recognition met with defeat.

I’d never seen a hotel with its face ripped off, a scatter of metal, brick, and branches strewn across the lawn. The nine-mile ride from Houston’s Hobby Airport to the NRG Center was a grim reminder of Hurricane Beryl’s path. Just ten days before the Houston shows and seminars, Beryl came to town and left its mark. But the show club members and the DJAA continued to work through it amid difficult circumstances.

In verse 11 of Second Corinthians, most likely on a day when his nerves were jangled by travel, St. Paul wrote, “Thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea… In weariness and painfulness…and cold.” Well, for all his travel travails, the good Apostle was at least spared having to journey with dogs.
