Breed Priorities – Collies

F Collies

Other breeds are definitely not, with many other features prioritized over head details. Some breeds have experts saying their breed “is a head breed, but…” Experts in other breeds say theirs is not a head breed, but… heads are important, but so is the rest of the dog.

F Good Dog People 2

Green is a former handler and current AKC judge based in Pinehurst, North Carolina, which her mother called “God’s country,” and she describes as “a little bit of New England nestled into the sand hills.” Like many I’ve spoken with, dogs are bred in the bone—she’s the daughter of two judges, started with Pointers and Boxers as a junior, but says she pretty much likes all breeds, whether she’s handling or judging. Obviously, AKC’s first consideration from a survival standpoint is legality, and luckily this sport never lacks legal expertise. That said, most clubs use AKC’s preformatted template for their constitution and bylaws, which streamlines the process and ensures that all new clubs hew a close line.

Hunting Without a Dog is Like Playing Air Guitar

F Hunting without a dog

There are actually people in this country who don’t hunt birds with a dog. I have to confess that I’ll never understand those folks.

Beyond The Breed Standard

Lead page_webF

Gaining real breed knowledge means going beyond the typical requirements. We must find ways to ask ourselves questions, even questions without answers, to create our own set of master tools instead of relying on the beginner’s set. It’s necessary to learn from the knowledge of others, but without finding other ways to seek our own answers, we won’t be able to see the standards come alive on the page and in the ring.mn
