As it often does, my tale begins with a phone call. A fellow Cavalier breeder was inquiring about my availability to judge a specialty show for a regional breed club.

Historic events and famous names have been woven into the fabric of this sport from the start. And that in itself rarely qualifies as an interesting storyline.

Does anyone truly know what “perfect” is? Oh, everyone has a broad idea of what it means–something with no flaws, an ideal type–but is it possible to point at something and say with absolute confidence, “That’s perfect” and have virtually everyone agree with that assessment?

Although dogs have been our companions for millennia, we have to guess at what prehistoric dogs looked like exactly.
