Dogs, Praise Be, Have No Political Agendas

11

It seems that everything is political these days. Every little thing, no matter how innocuous, somehow becomes controversial. Whenever anything happens, good or bad, there’s a frantic rush on both sides of the political divide to score points. About the only things that are not political are dogs although I did read a comment the other day about a couple who had pulled their puppy out of its play group because there were people in the group who had voted for Donald Trump.

The Big E – Electric

08

Where did the time go? Here we are, February 2019. It is that time of the year when Dogdom turns its attention toward New York City whether in person or on our computers, smartphones, or TVs. Ready or not, the Westminster Kennel Club Show, and all the other shows and activities which surround it, are upon us.

Looking Back With Lee – Where Are The Crowds?

06

The AKC/Royal Canin event was stupendous! Fun, great dogs, so many friends, good and interesting judges, and many food vendors in convenient spots. There was dock diving for the dogs, agility, seminars, conformation judging and the ever so interesting and worthwhile… Meet the Breeds! This is a valuable endeavor, from my point of view. The ‘MTB’ area was always crowded each time I ventured in to check it out! It is so important for spectators to see and visit with so many varied examples of our wonderful AKC purebred dogs.

The GBGV Makes a Grand Entrance to Westminster

04

As we know, AKC’s 192nd breed, the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen makes its Westminster debut in this year’s Hound Group. All things considered, it’s fair to wonder why it took so long. Its purebred heritage is respectably ancient. Moreover, the compact model, the PBGV–recog- nized way back in 1990–justifiably ranks among AKC’s greatest modern success stories, a fact that has also heightened anticipation for the arrival of the super- sized version.

Natl. Championship Group & BIS Judges Critiques

03

After the AKC National Championship in Orlando, Florida on December 15 and 16, the Canine Chronicle asked the Group and Best in Show Judges for their comments. This show is well-known for its recognition of owner-handlers and breeders with its Bred by Exhibitor Best in Show and National Owner-Handled Series finals, as well as its Junior Handler completion. The judges of those events were also asked for their comments.

The Customer Service Gap in Dog Sports

01

Maybe you’ve had an experience like this: I recently walked into a brokerage firm, asking for help with a transaction. I didn’t have an account and wanted to open one in order to sell some stock I hold in certificate form. The receptionist went to talk with a man in a glass-walled office and came back, telling me that they couldn’t help me and to have a nice day. When I asked questions about how best to sell the stock, she suggested calling the transfer agent. I had already done that – they sent me to the brokerage firm. She said sorry – they couldn’t help me. Goodbye.
