Year by year, the Bulldog has become more popular, enchanting peo- ple with his unique appearance and equable and kind disposition. As of 2016, the Bulldog ranks fourth overall in AKC registrations in the United States, exceeded only by the Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd Dog, and Golden Retriever.
We are very fortunate to live in Devon on the south coast of England. Just at the end of our road is a large beach – a considerable plus point for any dog owner. There are few greater pleasures in life than simply letting your dogs off their leash and watching them running completely free, crazily chasing the gulls or cowardly racing away from the incoming tide.
So, yet another Crufts has come and gone and, unusually, this one wasn’t pre-empted by copious amounts of disparaging articles in the mainstream press all deriding the pedigree dog, the show world and its breeders.
In this series, Michael interviews young people who are leading the way for the next generation of exhibitors, breeders and judges in the sport of purebred dogs. They talk about how they were introduced to the sport, their favorite breed, their success stories and more. Michael also talks to them about how they are helping to make the sport of purebred dogs a better place for the next generation.
When I planned this article on the GSD, little did I know how timely it would be? As you all know, an amazing example of the breed achieved the ultimate in the dog show world….
