It could almost be called a comedy of errors if not for the tragic consequences. Just one day after United made headlines around the world for the callous treatment and death of a passenger’s ten-month-old Frenchie pup, a German Shepherd with an intended destination of Kansas City was somehow was re-routed to Tokyo. Yes, that Tokyo!

Airline personnel have been wielding big power in the years since 9/11. Passengers are regularly berated, fined, kicked off flights, and worse for perceived infractions ranging from what they are reading to what they are wearing as cabin attendants seek to maintain order on the flight.

Another Beverly Hills Kennel Club weekend is in the books. The show will be televised on USA on Easter Sunday, April 1st at 5 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Eastern. I understand Ralph Lemcke has retired from judging, with his last assignment being at the Indianapolis shows (his home town) the weekend before Westminster. Ralph was always a true gentleman to show to and he will be sincerely missed in the center of the ring. Best wishes for a future of health and happiness my friend.

Even Fitzpatrick is having trouble getting his head wrapped around this situation. “You don’t always get a world class dog. Some dogs come close but every breeder can tell you that it’s like playing darts. Every once in a while you hit the bulls-eye. And when it happens, it’s a stroke of luck. And I’m getting older. At this point in my life you never know. I made up my mind when this year started I was going to enjoy showing my dog.” And so far, there’s been plenty to enjoy.
