“It was really shocking how many people have no idea that most sugar free gums can kill a dog.” It’s not just gum, of course. “Most people have no idea how many products contain this ingredient or the fact that a small amount can be potentially lethal to dogs. Most products that contain Xylitol have no warnings that they are toxic to dogs,”

When I was leaving the Kentucky Expo building on Sunday, I was a bit disappointed. Several of the setups had been broken down and the exhibitors were long gone and on their way home. There was a lot of dry kibble, garbage, sawdust, hair, etc. left on the floor. Is this the image we want to leave behind to those who might not be so enthusiastic about purebred dogs? This kind of disrespect leaves a poor impression of exhibitors and gives our sport a bad name. Someone has to clean up that mess. It is sad to think that it may be necessary to walk the building upon exit time in order to police such behavior. We should all have enough pride to take a moment to clean up our grooming/crating setups before we leave. We may have to bring the Pig Pen award back, guys! (My apologies for the soap box my friends!)

I heard Jeff Wright had a bit of mishap and twisted his knee last week in Texas. Once again, others at the show stepped up and demonstrated how those within the fancy have each other’s backs. Big kudos to David Williams, Ann Ramsbottom, Matt Hawley, Sergio Espejo and Lois DeMers for stepping up and making sure that Jeff’s dogs got in the ring.

I was shocked to read that the Armory Art show scheduled to be held at Pier 92 in New York beginning March 7th has been relocated to alternative Piers as a result of a city inspection revealing the Pier is structurally unsafe. Pier 92 was the site for the 143rd Westminster Kennel Club breed judging just a couple of weeks ago. The parking facility on the roof of Pier 92 was closed during Westminster due to the structure’s instability. It seems now that city officials have declared the entire structure to be unsafe, not just the parking structure. It makes one wonder if this will affect next year’s Westminster breed judging?

We are sad to report the passing of Shiba Inu breeder and fancier Frederick Duane on Sunday, February 17, 2019. Fred’s lifelong commitment to purebred dogs began with his interest in Akitas. However, most of us knew him as a breeder of outstanding Shiba Inus with his partner Diane Murphy. They bred Shibas under the [...]
