The American Kennel Club continues to encourage each of its 5,000 clubs to adhere to federal, state and local restrictions pertaining to minimizing the spread of COVID-19. As states gradually begin to reopen, we strongly urge clubs to follow every regulation for large gatherings.
Editor’s Note: This article was written during the heated battle at AKC over the proposed move of their headquarters to Raleigh/Durham. We all know how it turned out, but the idea was not only brilliant but, in retrospect, something that would probably be beneficial to the operations of today’s American Kennel Club.

You know how you’re personally being affected by the current situation, but you don’t know what struggles someone else might be facing. Your thoughts and feelings about the health crisis are valid, but so are theirs.
Percy was one of those handlers, as in the case of the Forsyths and numerous other leading handlers of that period, who was approved to judge Specialty Shows due to being a licensed handler. He did all-breeds under this ruling at various Specialties between 1937 and 1950, so he knew that he would enjoy a judging career prior to retiring from his importing and handling business, which had been so enormously successful, even before the time came to make a definite decision involving this change of activity.
“There are people today that come to the shows with dogs that are not competitive in the show ring, that will realize that they are not competitive and in five years will be competitive because they have the talent and perseverance to find and get the right dogs.”
