My heart is full after spending four days at dog shows in Southern California! It was great to spend time with folks I have not seen since the end of last February at the Beverly Hills show. This was the first year that the Lake Mathews and Conejo Kennel Clubs hosted a four-day cluster at the Lake Perris Recreation Park. This venue is gorgeous! In fact, I would have to put this location on my list as one of my favorite places to hold a dog show! Congratulations to the show committee for putting on a terrific event. Group judging this past weekend started at 2:30, and the show concluded at a very respectable hour every day! Kudos to the cluster’s Superintendent, Jack Bradshaw, and all involved.

Many breeds have an epigram. That short distinctive line, or quote that instantly gives you a mental picture of the essence of the breed. That little something maybe a breeder, judge or exhibitor mentioned or a sentence from the breed standard. These one-liners hit the nail on the head and are thought provoking.

I was glad to catch up with professional handler Tuni Conti. She told me she is on the road to recovery after what turned out to be a stroke. I wrote last week that Tuni found herself in the ER while at the Pointer National in Brooksville, Florida, from what she thought was dehydration. After visiting her regular medical professionals upon her return home, she learned that she had a stroke. After a stay in the hospital to ensure everything is okay, Tuni is now home and cleared for local travel. She was told she could show a few dogs. Friends are asked to keep an eye on her while at shows to make sure she is okay. We are so glad that you are healthy, my friend!!!

was saddened to hear that Ted Hoots, a member of the Apple Valley Kennel Club, was hit by a car on his way home from the Apple Valley Shows this past Sunday. Sadly, Ted did not survive the accident. Ted was a hard-working member of the club and had just finished volunteering for the cluster. Our most sincere condolences to Ted’s wife, Shari, and the rest of their family. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses for Ted.

They say a good Cutting horse “has some cow in him.” We think this little guy is taking that saying to heart!
