When someone or other, in referring to a particular purebred dog conformation judge, volunteers a rather cursory, somewhat off-the-cuff remark such as ‘oh, he (or she) always does his (or her) own thing’, and it happens, what is meant exactly?

The introduction of the poodle begins with Wendell illuminating the greatest misconception about the breed. The misdemeanor that the Poodle is a retriever, which is false. The Poodle himself is a companion dog whose origin for retrieving waterfowl did descend from the water dog but as the muddy marshes and ponds dried up due to civilization expansion, waterfowl and the hunting thereof decreased and the Poodle eventually became a companion dog.
At a large cluster, it seemed that poor sportsmanship was rampant in many rings. One judge apparently felt the need to congratulate those on their wins as well as thank exhibitors of their sportsmanship when appropriate. That wasn’t received well by those who did not get thanked.
Many breeds experienced radical transformations during the late ‘30s and early ‘40s. Dachshunds may top that list. In 1924 AKC registered 43 Dachshunds. In 1934, annual registrations exceeded 1200, a 3000% increase.
Early negotiations produced a tentative agreement to move MSG across Eighth Avenue into the old Farley Post Office. A combination of bureaucratic inertia and economic downturn stalled that plan in 2008. As a result, MSG’s owners proceeded to upgrade the 45-year-old arena. That project was completed last January, just as its 50-year land-use permit expired.
That change finally arrived in the form of Ch. Tejano Texas Kid. The Kid wasn’t the first Chihuahua to score Best in Show wins. But there is no question that he made the breed a serious group contender with a show career fueled by 50 years of pent-up Chihuahua energy.
As the task force moves forward it will study bringing along new judges, enhancing ongoing education for judges seeking new breeds, utilizing exhibitor surveys, and exploring new tools and technologies for assessing judging performance.

To their dismay, Westminster’s three judge panel placed him reserve to the Airedale bitch, Ch. Briergate Bright Beauty, handled by Alf Delmont.
