Spanish Water Dogs were granted full recognition by the AKC as of January 1st, 2015. To say that we hit the ring running is somewhat of an understatement. Within 21 days we had our first Champion made up with several more dogs well on the way.
The 2015 Morris & Essex KC show is a wrap and many fanciers across the country are already counting down the minutes to the next edition of this quinquennial event. The Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced show-low-eetz-QUEENT-lee), or Xolo, is an ancient breed, but relatively new to AKC dog shows, having been added to the Non-Sporting group in 2010.
I bought my first show dog in 1971. The world of dog shows and purebred dog breeders has been turned on its axis several times since then. Since my beginnings in purebred dogs, there has been a revolution in my thinking.
