his biggest training challenge was acclimating eight-year-old Piper to those jet engine noisy vibes. Otherwise, he was basically a natural, which really isn’t too surprising. The Border Collie’s intrinsic herding drive, natural agility, responsiveness, and boundless energy make it ideally suited to proactive wildlife management.
Just when you thought flying with dogs couldn’t get any worse well it has. The new TSA ID requirements go into effect just in time for that annual grueling trek to Westminster. Specifically, beginning January 22, 2018, ID requirements at those delightful TSA airport security checkpoints will be stepped up. A detailed list of TSA acceptable forms of ID can be accessed at tsa.gov.
A note to all my friends: This is the right thing to do when you are ill. Please! If you have the flu or a related illness, stay home until you are well. Do NOT go to dog shows. We have lost several fanciers to the flu already this year. This year’s outbreak is the worst in years. Do your part, please! If you are sick, STAY HOME!!!!!
Wayne Smith and his nine-year-old canine sidekick “Buddy” have logged in a lotta years and miles together. Since relocating from Florida they have become a familiar sight in the neighborhood as has Smith’s grocery shopping routine, which commenced as usual that fateful afternoon.

Campaigning a dog is a a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows; nothing is ever guaranteed, and anything can happen –– that’s the only thing that is certain.
Orlando is one of our greatest opportunities for public outreach. We need to continue to be mindful of such outreach if we are going to continue to grow our sport and encourage newcomers to join us. The efforts at the Meet the Breed booths were very impressive, and I was very happy to see seasoned exhibitors, breeders and professional handlers pitch in and help their breeds.
There’s another new addition creating buzz at the National Championship this year and not one person is competing for a prize. It’s called Regalia and it’s a Saturday night party to celebrate purebred dogs. The best part is it is held right outside the group ring at the show
