Dog Survive Venezuela Earthquake & Bring Hope for More Survivors

Dogs give us hope at the times we need it the most. For most of us comes in terms of moral support to survive a life crisis. It’s a different story in Venezuela right now.

We all know about those two devastating Venezuela earthquakes that hit the news in late June. Technically, these were strike slip quakes, which means nothing to anyone unacquainted with geophysics.  So, let’s just say it was bad–really bad. The current death toll has exceeded 5,000 and it is expected to double as the wreckage, and debris slowly reveals the true numbers. Every day, hope fades. Therefore, anytime that life is discovered to be flickering amidst tons of devastation and death, it is a reason for national celebration.

Countless people have lost their loved ones, and that terrible mix of hope and grief is not limited to human relationships. Time is on no one’s side.

So far, three dogs have been rescued from the quake. The latest is an eleven-year-old white Poodle rescued after an astonishing 29 days buried under tons of rubble when his building collapsed. He was discovered curled up against two of his deceased family members, which really makes you want to cry.  From a national perspective, the survival of these dogs has imparted hope and joy in a time and place where it is desperately needed.

The news cycle is short and shallow, but back when the 2017 wildfires forced mass evacuations in California, a Pyr defied the odds. He was simply doing his job, guarding the livestock that was abandoned when the family was forced to flee. His owners reported that they tried to shove him in the car with their other dogs and cats, but he refused to budge. He had a job and he was going to do it. As the fire encroached, he rounded up his goat herd and led them to a safe place. He was burned but miraculously everyone survived including several wild deer that had followed his path to safety.

Never underestimate dogs, especially when we need them the most.
