It’s official (finally) my friends!  We are going back to New York City for the 149th Westminster Kennel Club dog show!  (https://caninechronicle.com/breaking-news/the-westminster-kennel-club-announces-return-to-manhattan-and-its-original-home-madison-square-garden-for-149th-annual-dog-show-in-february-2025/).  Westminster 2025 will be held February 8th, 10th and 11th.  Breed judging will be held at the Javits Center on the 10th and 11th, with group judging at Madison Square Garden (home sweet home) in the evening!  Honestly, I enjoyed attending Westminster in May, and I loved the Billy Jean King National Tennis Center as the venue.  However, most of us agree there is something special about Westminster group judging at MSG and the show being held in NYC.

Shortly after the official announcement about WKC’s return to Manhattan, Westminster released the 2025 judging panel (https://caninechronicle.com/breaking-news/the-westminster-kennel-club-announces-judging-panel-for-149th-annual-dog-show-making-its-highly-anticipated-return-to-manhattan-in-2025/).  Congratulations to everyone who was chosen to judge Westminster next year!

I hear exhibitors at the Tampa, Florida shows this past weekend got a bit more lakefront property than they bargained for when the grooming building flooded. Fortunately, no dogs or humans were harmed.  It seems the flooding was more of an inconvenience.  This, my friends, is another example of the ability of fanciers to adjust to any situation then forge ahead!

I am told Michael Brantley took a fall in Tampa and injured his hamstring.  Many fanciers jumped in to help which is true to form for our community.  Heal quickly, Michael. See you in the ring soon!

I checked in with Ethan Coye about his injury while rescuing a loose dog during Woofstock.  The doctors say he needs to keep his leg elevated and iced.  He has a grade 3 sprain, so as of now he does not need surgery.  Unfortunately, Ethan cannot run for at least 6 weeks.  While I am sure the owner of the loose dog appreciates everyone’s efforts to bring his dog to safety, Ethan and others have not heard from him yet. A big thank you would be the least someone could offer after people saved your dog’s life.

I was happy to hear that Brenda Combs is home from the hospital and doing better.  Get well soon, Brenda! We miss you!

Congratulations to Brianne Rock and Aaron King on the birth of their twin baby girls!  Lorelei Julie King, 4.11 oz. and Scarlett Theresa King, 3.10 oz. will spend a little time in the NICU due to their tiny size, but they are doing great!  Congratulations to this beautiful family!!!

On May 13th, the CDC published new regulations affecting the importation of dogs.  These new regulations, effective August 1st, could have a negative impact on those in our sport.  Please read Pilar Kuhn’s article https://caninechronicle.com/current-articles/help-stop-the-new-dog-importation-regulations-before-its-too-late/ and take the time to write your local representative!  Pilar made it easy.  Just cut and paste the relevant paragraphs and email the appropriate person!

Showing in the breed and not showing in the group is a topic of discussion once again.  I admit that many years back it would annoy me when someone showed in (and won) the breed with no intention of staying for the group.  As the years went on, and I was exposed to many different scenarios, my view on this topic changed.  One cannot possibly know what goes into someone’s decision to skip the group.  Of course, one alternative is to ask the individual, but does it really matter?  In my opinion, this is another case of you do you and don’t worry about what others do!

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include:  Susan Bradshaw MacLyman, Erin Kerfoot, Patty Haines, Ray Stevens, Vicki Seiler-Cushman, Perry Payson and Jess Flach.  May your next trip around the sun bring joy, happiness, beautiful dogs, and great friends.

In honor of Pride Month, I leave you with the following:

I don’t wear pride colors to tell you who is in my bed.  I wear pride colors so the family across the street knows they are safe.  So, the couple in the restaurant knows they are not alone.  So, the boy who sees me notice him looking at dresses knows I won’t judge.  I wear pride because you make them hide.

I hope all the dads out there had a great Father’s Day.  Be safe in your travels and lend a hand wherever you can!  Kill them with kindness, my friends!  I will see you soon down the road.  Until next time…
