Table Talk · March 20, 2024

I returned home from a fun and exhausting Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville, Kentucky. I must say the circuit once again did not disappoint!  This cluster always attracts many of the nation’s top dogs, and it makes this cluster even more special.  To watch the group competition (both regular and NOHS), it restores faith that our sport is thriving.  All the judges I spoke with said they wished they had 10 or 12 ribbons to award to the exhibits in their groups.  If you have not yet had the opportunity, please be sure to watch the Table Talk Live! interviews with several of the weekend’s judges and competitors. You can find them on our Canine Chronicle Facebook page, the Canine Chronicle website (www.caninechronicle.com), or Canine Chronicle TV (www.caninechronicle.tv)!

The Kentuckiana Cluster has attracted more than 3,500 entries year after year for some time.  I believe this is due, in part, to their incredible support of National and Regional Specialties coupled with their incredible hospitality. This year I had the pleasure of watching the Black and Tan Coonhound National Specialty.  I have never seen so many “Coonies” in one place, and the depth of quality was incredible!  Congratulations to the Black and Tan Coonhound community for your hard work to preserve your breed while bringing high quality dogs for the fancy to see.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Table Talk Live! coverage of the cluster. I had the pleasure of chatting with several NOHS exhibitors and judges. The show chair of the Westminster Kennel Club, Dr. Donald Sturz, took time out of his busy schedule to chat about all things Westminster!  If you are wondering how the entry lottery works–or what the status of the 2025 show is–be sure to take time to watch this interview!

For those joining us in New York for Westminster in May, be sure to get your tickets for the Museum of the Dog Barks and Bubbles benefit which will be held at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center on Monday, May 13th at 4 PM. Here is the link to website to purchase tickets: (https://akcmotd.ticketing.veevartapp.com/tickets/view/list/barks-bubbles-a-garden-soiree).  (For more information, please see the Table Talk Live! segment with CEO Christopher Bromson. You can find it on the Canine Chronicle Facebook page or Canine Chronicle TV).

A heads-up to all exhibitors who enter shows using Onofrio as the Superintendent.  Effective immediately Onofrio will no longer accept entries until noon PST.  Going forward all closings will be effective noon CST! Get them entered by noon in Central Standard Time, my friends!

Congratulations to Nancy Brown who has been recognized as one of modern healthcare’s top woman leaders! (https://caninechronicle.com/current-articles/nancy-brown-recognized-as-one-of-modern-healthcares-top-women-leaders/). Nancy is not only an incredible supporter of the sport of purebred dogs, but also is a true champion of heart health through her position as the CEO of the American Heart Association.  Congratulations, Nancy!  This recognition is well-deserved.

Heartfelt sympathies are extended to Aaron Wilkerson, family and friends on the devastating loss of Aaron’s brother.  Our thoughts are with you at this most difficult time.

I am very sorry to report the sudden passing of Lynda O’Connor-Schneider’s husband, Dave.  Dave was a wonderful man who was loved by all that had the pleasure of knowing him, especially his wife Lynda.  Dave will be sorely missed by his family and those in the sport of purebred dogs.

Congratulations to Ash Oldfield on the birth of her healthy baby boy, Gray. May you have a lifetime of love and happiness ahead.

Dylan Kipp-Keith and Chris Keith finally welcomed their baby girl, Charlotte Annette!  Charlotte took her sweet time arriving, but it was worth the wait!  Best wishes to your family for many happy years ahead!

Congratulations to Michael Canalizo, who received the 2023 AKC Lifetime Achievement Award for Conformation.  This award is well-deserved, my friend! Thank you for your contributions to our sport.

Linda Clark and Darle Heck are off on magnificent adventure!  They are traveling to South Africa via Egypt where they will tour the pyramids.  It sounds like a trip of a lifetime!  Have fun ladies!

Happy Anniversary to Carlina and Ken Pulliam!  May you two lovebirds have many more wonderful years ahead.

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include: Susan Allison, Jess Johnstone, Tyler Crady-Roche, Dick Greaver, Doris Cozart, Kristyn Stout, Jan Hepper, Fan Yu, Pilar Kuhn, Mercedes Vila and Kay Belter.  Best wishes for the best trip around the sun yet!

Here is something everyone should remember:  Nobody watches you harder or more critically than the people who dislike you the most, so give them a show they will never forget!!  Always believe in yourself.  You can do anything you want to do because you are in control of your life.  No one else is!

Wherever your travels take you, please be safe and take time to enjoy the moment.  I will see you soon down the road.  Until next time…
