Table Talk · September 22, 2021

I am always sad to say goodbye to summer.  While I love the fall colors, living in the Midwest means there are challenging days ahead!  On the other hand, fall signals Terrier Week, and this year we have the added bonus of Morris & Essex KC.  This year’s M&E closed with 4,017 entries!  Not only am I excited about the show itself and seeing friends that I only see a few times a year, I am really excited about a dog show that exceeds 4,000 and the quality and competition that will be there.  Grab your hats, ladies and gents, and let the good times roll!

Hatboro, Devon and Montgomery County close Wednesday at noon.  I can only hope that a great deal of the entry stays for the remainder of the week.  I will report back on the rest of the week’s entry next week!

If you have a fond memory of Morris & Essex you would like to share, make sure to reach out to me at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com.  I would love to include some memories from shows past in our live coverage of the show.

National Specialty season continues, and I really enjoy seeing photos of everyone’s accomplishments and good times.  Fanciers drive far and wide to share the best of their breeding programs with the fancy, talk pedigrees and look for that special dog to add to their breeding program.  Specialties can be a good way to introduce your new puppy families to the sport and your breed.  Keep it in mind as an option if the logistics work.

Rhanda Glenn did not make the Black Russian Terrier National this past week as she was a bit under the weather.  After surgery and a little rest, she is as good as new and hitting the road once again!

Brian Still has settled into a rehab facility and continues to work hard to recover from his stroke.  He would love to have visitors if you are in the area.  If you would like to send a card, please send it to:  Brian Still, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, 300  1st Avenue, Room 424, Charleston, MA 02128.  For those in the area, visiting hours are 2-8.

Congratulations to Don Sturz and Sean Gillespie who tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony this past weekend.  Here’s to many years of love, health, and happiness!!

Paul Clas & Chrystal Murray and David Salcido & Brian Boldt are celebrating wedding anniversaries this week.  I urge you to take time out of your busy schedules to enjoy each other!  May you have many more happy years ahead.

As I get older, I get more sensitive, and certain special days bring back many memories.  Monday, September 20thwould have been Frank Sabella’s 92nd birthday.  Frank was one of those people I got excited about when I saw him on a panel.  I always tried to have at least one good conversation with Frank when we crossed paths, and I always enjoyed his artistry in his day.  He is one of those dog people who left a hole in my dog world. I cherish the time he was with us.

Celebrating birthdays this week are:  Breanna Uyeno, Val Nunes-Atkinson, Tess Savage, Sam Marquis, Jimmy Moses, Colton Johnson, Julie Lee, Vesta Rash, Linda Pitts, Mandy Clevenger, and Kristina Rock.  Happy birthday to all!  Enjoy your special day.

The steward shortage continues to be a challenge for all clubs holding shows.  If you have a few hours available, please consider reaching out to the club and offering a hand:  Many clubs actually pay the stewards, so why not earn a bit of cash to put toward entries!?!  Stewarding is a great way to learn about different breeds, how judges think, and to get out and meet new people.

Many thanks to Chris Ann Moore for this week’s thought: “Some days are better, some days are worse.  Look for the blessing instead of the curse.  Be positive, stay strong, and get enough rest.  You cannot do it all, but you can do your best!!!”

I will be on the East Coast for the week of Morris & Essex, Devon, Hatboro and Montgomery County bringing you Table Talk Live! coverage.  Don’t hesitate to email me at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com with your interesting stories to share with the fancy!

Be safe out there, my friends.  Until next time….
