A Special Appearance at Del Monte

 Photograph by Vicky Cook

Nearly anyone with a passing knowledge of our sport remembers Dorothy Macdonald. Miss Macdonald is recognized as the authority on the Brittany breed and, until her retirement from judging, she was truly one of our most iconic judges as evidenced by her Best In Show judging assignment at Westminster in 2001.

Del Monte show chair Hap Sutliff sent us the photo of Miss Macdonald at his shows held July 13-14 at Carmel Middle School, Carmel, CA. As you can see, she is still doing well and enjoys every opportunity to attend a dog show. Sutliff told us, “I picked Dottie up each afternoon and brought her to our shows. She had a blast. She is my good friend. Dottie is 92 years old. Also in the photo with Dottie and me is Jake Lum from Hawaii. He is the AKC’s youngest licensed judge. He turned 21 in June and came to judge Juniors.”

Miss Macdonald: We miss your wisdom and we wish you were still center-ring sharing it with anyone with the desire to learn just a little bit more about the sport of purebred dogs.
