Table Talk – May 21, 2019
When I was in South Jordan, Utah at the Beehive cluster a couple weeks back, a little girl showing her Australian Shepherd in the Owner/Handled group caught my eye. This little girl was so polished and confident, and was smiling from ear to ear as she showed her Aussie. Fast-forward to the following day when little Harper Bogle and her grandmother, Judy Hirsch, visited the Purina© Pro Plan© booth to collect that day’s prize. Grandma was so proud and was glad to chat about her granddaughter’s dog showing activities when asked. Harper was humble and politely replied to questions when I asked. This young lady, who is not quite old enough to show in Junior Showmanship yet is no stranger to breed and group competition, is looking forward to showing in Junior Showmanship next year. She already boasts a specialty win, a group win, and several group placements on her dog. Both Harper and her grandmother feel that the sport has been very welcoming and kind to them, and as a result, they are excited about what the future in the sport holds for them. Kindness works, my friends!
AKC Judge Kathy Steen recently broke her femur and had to undergo surgery to repair it. Unfortunately, she contracted an infection and her recovery has been a bit compromised, but she is on the mend! Kathy is rehabbing at ManorCare Rehab in Marietta, Georgia and would love to hear from her friends! Those wishing to send a card can send it to: Kathy Steen, ManorCare Rehab Center of Marietta, 4360 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068. She hopes to be released by May 30th. If you would like to send Kathy an email, please send to KathleenSteen@bellsouth.net. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, my friend!
I was sad to hear that the sport has lost two more icons. Pat Crowley and Linda More passed away over the past week. Our most sincere thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time. These ladies’ knowledge and passion for the sport of purebred dogs will be sorely missed by all of us. Their passing leaves a hole in our sport that will be hard to fill.
Sadly, exhibitor Jan Breitenfeldt and her daughter, Skye, were killed in a freak accident while returning home to Whitehall, Montana from the shows in Logan, Utah this past weekend. A big win gust hit their SUV/Trailer and sent the rig rolling and Jan and Skye did not survive the accident. Our thoughts are with Jan and Skye’s family and friends at this difficult time.
Jay Richardson is off to the Czech Republic to judge. Safe travels, my friend, and enjoy the sights!
Congratulations to the following recent National Specialty Winners:

Please don’t forget to send me your National Specialty breed wins! You can send info to me via Facebook Messenger, or via email at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com.
The Marriott Courtyard, located just outside the Vallejo, California fairgrounds, has had an increased number of cars broken into in their parking lot. Many windows have been smashed. If you stay at this hotel while attending dog shows at the fairgrounds, please be sure to remove all of your belongings, and you may want to reconsider your options if you are contemplating leaving dogs in your vehicle in the hotel parking lot.
We have many lovebirds celebrating wedding anniversaries this week! Gina and Cliff Weiser are celebrating 37 years of love. We are starting to make plans for Table Talk Live! at the Houston cluster at Reliant Hall in July. Please reach out to me via email or Facebook Messenger if you are interested in participating in our Breed Priority project. In addition, I would love to hear your ideas or fun facts that we could include in our broadcast.
Please enjoy the moment, my friends, and be careful in your travels. Remember a small act of kindness goes a long way! Until next time…
