Table Talk
Another Beverly Hills Kennel Club weekend is in the books. The show will be televised on USA on Easter Sunday, April 1st at 5 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Eastern. This was the second year that Saturday’s show was recorded for television broadcast and the process seemed much smoother than last year. Sunday morning was met with a couple of challenges as the venue booked several events that entered through the same gate, causing exhibitors exceptional delay. The Show Chairman delayed judging an hour to allow exhibitors to get in and get to their respective rings. This is the second year that this type of delay occurred. I am hopeful this issue will be addressed before next year’s shows.
I was thrilled to see Bergit Coady-Kabel judging Dachshund Sweepstakes on Friday! Bergit looked fantastic. It is my hope that we will see her in the center of the ring more frequently!
Several clubs offer Junior Showmanship entries free of charge. Those clubs are trying to encourage all clubs to do the same. There are many individuals licensed to judge Juniors that do not charge anything. If the expense is a concern, perhaps clubs can reach out to those who are willing to donate their time to judge Junior Showmanship. Children are the future of our sport! Anything the purebred dog community can do to continue to support them helps the sport (and our Juniors). To those show-giving clubs who have not considered offering these classes with no entry fee, it may be something worth considering. For those clubs who are offering this class with no entry fee: THANK YOU!!!
After over 40 years as an Executive Field Representative, Sydney Good is retiring! Best wishes to you in the future, my friend! I have no doubt you will live life to its fullest. Mike Szabo will be relocating to the Florida area leaving the Midwest Field Rep position vacant.
Healing thoughts to Clint Livingston who spent a short time in the hospital. He is back home and will be back in the ring shortly. We hope to see you soon!
Our friend Gloria Johnson has finished another round of chemo and will have surgery in early April. We are pulling for you my friend! Keep up the positive attitude and we all look forward to seeing you soon.
Congratulations to Terri Galle and Robert Chaffin on their daughter’s induction into the National Honor Society! You should be so proud of her accomplishment. Keep up the good work!
My most sincere condolences to West Coast French Bulldog fancier Nick Phillips on the passing of his father.
Many of our friends are heading across the pond for Crufts. Among the lucky ones are Amy Rutherford, Val Atkinson, Bruce Schwartz, Desi Murphy, Bill McFadden, Jan Ritchie-Gladstone, Bill Shelton, Sydney Good, Jason Hoke and our own Justin and Cheslie Smithey. Jason judged the Boxer puppy of the year competition in the UK leading up to Crufts and was very impressed with the depth of quality in his ring. I believe that Harrods bottom line will be significantly increased over the next few days! Continue to check back on our website for results, blogs and maybe a video or two. We will do our best to keep everyone posted on the current events at Crufts.
A note to those of you who have not sent in your reserved grooming request for the Louisville cluster–Nina Fetter will accept reservations until this coming Friday, March 9th. Please email your grooming forms to louisvillegrooming@woh.rr.com. Please remember if you have paid for an RV spot for Louisville and will not be attending, contact either Nina Fetter or Cindy Lane Smith via Facebook Messenger or email louisvillegrooming@woh.rr.com. RV spots are needed and we don’t want to see them go to waste!
We continue to make plans for Table Talk Live! at the Louisville cluster. Keep an eye open for us as we would love to chat with you! And to those of you who cannot make it to Louisville this year, please continue to check back on our Facebook page and our website for interviews and updates about what’s happening at the show!
Long-time friends Brian and Cindy Meyer, Delores Burkholder and Connie Gerstner-Miller helped Judy Cooper celebrate her 75th birthday by hosting a surprise party for her this past weekend! She was surprised and so happy to see all of her friends. It is great to see long-time friends celebrating a special lady. I wish many more happy, healthy birthdays to my “other mother”.
Others celebrating birthdays this week are: Tuni Conti (who is celebrating tropical-style while on vacation with her hubby, Ernie), Diana Hadsall, Lois DeMers and Lauren Hay-Lavitt.
I look forward to seeing many of you in Louisville. Wherever your travels take you this week, please be careful.
Until next time…
