Table Talk – February 21, 2018
It seems the majority of those attending Westminster could not avoid an illness that seems to plague them every year. It’s what I will call the “Westminster Crud”. I hope that all my friends are taking care of themselves and getting the necessary rest to recoup from this nasty bug. If you are under the weather, please stay home and get well. So far, I have been fortunate (knock on wood), and have remained in good health.
Reports from Oregon confirm occurrences of the canine flu. It is so important to keep any dog with symptoms home from shows to try to avoid another outbreak. Oregon is the only state I have heard reporting the flu at this time. I hope it stops there.
The cluster in Colorado following Westminster has a unique format. They hold two shows on Friday and Saturday (they run half of each show on Friday with the corresponding groups, then the other half on Saturday along with BIS for both shows on Saturday), a show on Sunday and a show on Monday. This is the second year they have run their shows with this format. I have not heard how it went this year. I’d be curious to hear from those who attended regarding your thoughts on this unique format.
I am heading to the Beverly Hills dog shows next week: These shows will be tape delayed and scheduled to air on USA on Easter. Stay tuned for more information.
The National Dog Show in Philadelphia that aired on Thanksgiving Day was viewed by over 30 million viewers!! What great outreach for our sport.
