Table Talk
I did not realize how much I miss my local doggy friends until I was able to hit a show close to home and spend time with folks whom I don’t get to see often enough. The Fort Wayne, Indiana Cluster is always a pleasure to attend. The members work very hard to make the show enjoyable for exhibitors and spectators, and the venue is terrific.
The Tri-State Kennel Club shows in Joplin, Missouri got off to a bit of a rocky start as several exhibitors were unhappy that they were not informed about the location of the free grooming space at the show. When the show committee learned of the exhibitors’ concerns, they immediately swung into action and addressed the complaints. Kudos to the show committee for your hard work!
Doberman and Siberian Husky exhibitor Tina Harbert of Michigan has been sentenced to 10-20 years in prison. She was found guilty of two counts of child abuse. Harbert’s ex-husband, James, was sentenced to 20-40 years for three counts of child abuse. My heart goes out to their 10- and 12-year-old boys. It seems they have endured a life of horrible physical and mental abuse.
Most of you remember the PBGV “IceAge” who was shown in the U.S. by Clint Livingston. He is now at home in Australia with owner Brianne Major and this duo is taking the Australian show ring by storm. He already completed his Australian Championship! It is great to see Bri back in the ring doing what she loves.
Dylan Kipp and Chris Keith tied the knot this past week. The wedding photos looked lovely! Congrats to this happy couple! We wish you a future filled with nothing but happiness.
Those travelling to Leipzig, Germany for the World Dog Show include Martha Feltenstein, Allison Sunderman, Lois DeMers, Desi Murphy and Tim Terella. I’d love to hear from others who are making the trip. For those not fortunate enough to go, there is a link to the live video stream of the show on our website at caninechronicle.com.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Fox Terrier and Sealyham Terrier fancier Judy Thill. She was licensed to judge the Terrier group, Best In Show and several Non-Sporting breeds. Our sympathy goes out to Judy’s friends and family at this difficult time.
Happy 39th Wedding Anniversary to show photographers Brian and Betsy Kurtis. May you lovebirds enjoy many more years of wedded bliss!
It seems that breeding Poodles is not the only thing Chris Manelopoulos’ client Zuleika Borges is good at doing. She and Borges Torrealba along with son Goncalo (Three Chimneys Farm) are also owners of 2017 Breeders Cup Classic Champion Gun Runner. For those not familiar with horse racing, this is the defining event in international horse racing and carries with it a $6,000,000 purse. Congratulations on a monumental achievement!
Happy Birthday to legendary terrier man Peter Green who turned 81 years young this week!
Also celebrating birthdays this week are: Julie Jones, Betsy Kurtis, Jim Noe, Erika Moureau, Julie Parker, Linda Hurlebaus, Rex Linn, Ellen Fetter and, last but most importantly my better half, Robert Cooper.
Be safe out there my friends, and give those newbies a kind nod at the shows. Until next time!
