Table Talk
We have gone from floods to fires, fires to earthquakes! UGH!! To those of you who have experienced great loss and hardship, please remember that Take The Lead has set up a special fund to assist those in the fancy in need. Visit the Take The Lead website at www.takethelead.org for more information. In addition, the Southern Handler’s Charity League (SHCL) continues with their great fundraising work. Most recently, at the shows in Dripping Springs, they raised over $2200 alone! Congratulations to a hard-working group of folks that continue to look out for those in the sport who are in need.
While speaking of hardship, our friends in Puerto Rico are suffering immeasurably right now. The Caribe Kennel Club’s shows close this Wednesday, September 27. Maybe we should all consider giving them an entry even if you can’t attend the show. This would be an easy way to show your support and help the good people of Puerto Rico keep their shows alive during this trying time.
If you live in the vicinity of the fires, please remember that wildlife may show up on your property. They, too, have been displaced from their homes and are tired, hungry and thirsty. If possible, please leave food and water out and make sure to bring your own animals inside!!!
The Arapahoe Kennel Club held a peewee junior showmanship class this past weekend. It was well-received by many. This is another way clubs may want to consider trying bringing the family back to the sport. We are always looking for ways to draw folks to our shows and this is another option to consider.
Heartfelt congratulations to Katie Shepherd and Adam Bernardin who tied the knot in Las Vegas this past week at the Mandalay Bay Resort. We are so happy for this fine young couple!
A very warm welcome back to the USA to Erika Bigott who I understand is back for good this time! She and fiancé Bob Busby will be tying the knot soon I am sure.
We are happy to report Clint Harris has finally returned home after his terrible fall and recuperation. What a resilient man he is!
It is with great sadness that we have to tell you of the passing of Andy Andrews, husband of long-time Doberman breeder Cheryl Green from Nashville, TN. Our thoughts are with Cheryl, her family and friends during this difficult time.
Bill Dumas passed away unexpectedly this past week. A long-time delegate of the Ventura Dog Fancier’s Association, Bill had just attended the recent delegates meeting. Our thoughts go out to Bill’s family and friends.
Healing thoughts to Angela Booth who had an unexpected dismount from her horse recently. After a couple of days in the hospital, she is back home recuperating in a very uncomfortable back brace! Surely this will not get Angela down and she will be right back on that horse again as soon as is possible! (and well before the Dr.’s tell her she can, I’m sure)
Mike Brantley is getting cortisone injections for his back and will be back running those left-handed circles in no time!
Carol Grossman will be the first unlicensed person to judge intersex competition at the Great Dane National Specialty. The show is coming up in a couple of weeks and will be held in Chandler, Arizona. Mrs. Grossman has an entry of 50 dog specials and 55 bitch specials to judge and I am excited that I will be there to watch. I am sure she will judge the dogs in the same elegant manner she exhibited them!
Vicki Seiler-Cushman’s eldest, Courtney, is getting married this coming weekend to Erich Widmer. Congrats to Courtney, Vickie and Jeff. May you experience many years of happiness! Vicki, time flies! I can’t believe Courtney is old enough to get married!
Happy 20th wedding anniversary to Mary Norton and her husband, Jeff. Also celebrating an anniversary is Ashley and Branden Ryan.
Celebrating birthdays this week are: Mandy Clevenger, Kristina Rock, Monica Bowers, Julie Lynn Mueller, Roberta Lombardi, Tina Turley-Kocab, Jon Cole, Traci Clark and Lenny Brown.
I will be attending the Wine Country circuit this weekend. If you are there, please stop by and say HI!!!!
Wherever your travels take you, be careful, and please remember to offer a kind hand to a newbie. Until next time….
