There are not many things as much fun as a dog show at the beach! The Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association held its summer show on June 30, 2017 at their regular venue, Seaside Park, otherwise known as the Ventura County Fairgrounds. It was a fun-filled weekend with fourteen specialties on Thursday followed by the all breed shows. Purina sponsored the weekend and offered prizes and samples all four days!
Junior Showmanship was FREE! The juniors entry was deep with quality and the judges worked hard sorting through a strong entry. Best Junior Handler was Taylor DelDuca under Judge Linda Clark. Winning Best Junior earned Taylor the privilege of judging the second annual K9s for Komfort competition. K9s for Komfort is a community service project organized by Lauren Brown. Exhibitors are invited to bring stuffed toys which are judged by the Best Junior Handler and then donated to the Community Memorial Hospital Pediatric Surgical Unit. The person who donated the win- ning toy receives a gift certificate donated by Davis Animal Sup- plies! We were thrilled to hear that Taylor loved this idea so much that she plans to start a similar program at her local club show.
Ventura County Dog Fanciers As- sociation was also thrilled to have one of the two AKC Disaster Trailers on site. Currently, one trailer is maintained at the Animal Shelter in Camarillo and the other at the shelter in Simi Valley. Plans are under- way for the club to organize the donation of a third trailer. AKC Delegate Bill Dumas is spearheading the project.
BBQs in the parking lot, a variety of vendors and awesome opportunities for breath-taking photographs round out the list of reasons to join us at the dog show on the beach!
