Table Talk
The cluster in Harrisburg, PA continued this past weekend with its annual tradition of hosting a fundraiser on Saturday evening of the circuit. The theme this year was Disney characters. The folks who run this cluster do a fantastic job of getting fanciers involved, and renewing the tradition of making dog shows fun. Kudos to the cluster Committee and those who work so hard to raise funds for Take The Lead and the Penn Ridge Charitable foundation, two very worthwhile causes. The evening was well-attended and those who spoke to me said they had a ball! When the funds are tallied, I’ll let you know just how successful this event turned out!
The AKC has suspended Cortney Corral, the handler who tragically lost 14 Golden Retrievers in the heat in South Bend, for life. This sentence would indicate that AKC has become much stricter in their adjudication of such tragic accidents. We can only hope that this tragedy has taught everyone a lesson and made all more cognizant of what can happen when you have dogs in your care. It also does make one wonder why this case was treated so differently from others who suffered similar circumstances. It also makes us wonder how they will treat the next person who loses a dog due to negligent care or what may be construed as an accident.
Summer weather wreaked havoc at the Lorain County cluster in Ohio this past weekend when on Saturday a storm quickly blew in during the first group and took down the main tent where the groups were to be held. The show was called off with the groups cancelled. Fortunately for all, no one was injured. The tent company came, repaired the tent and the show went on Sunday with a slight delay.
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Margie Kuszak-Betcher, a longtime Brittany fancier. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
Birthday wishes this week go out to Brian Kurtis, Nicole Munneke, Alicia Morrison Jones, Tony Carter, Janice Hayes, Antonio Vidmar, Megan Cloudman, Sam Mammano, Mai Ozeki Hirai, Dana Cline and Larry Fenner.
Last, but certainly not least, congrats to Larry Cornelius and Marcelo Veras on their nuptials over the weekend. Larry and Marcelo were married in Key West in a small ceremony with close friends. We wish nothing but the best for this wonderful couple. I hope I am around in 20 years to celebrate your platinum anniversary with you!
