Criminal Probe Rocks 2016 World Dog Show

The World Dog Show, scheduled to be held in Moscow June 23-26, 2016, may be in jeopardy due to strife within the Russian Kynological Federation (RKF) and a continuing criminal probe of members of the organization. Our sources in Europe and Russia claim problems inside the RKF are not new, and related not only to institutional matters, but also to the criminal side of the law.

Routine investigation of a recent criminal probe of the RKF shows in January 2016 a criminal case No11601455012000596 against unidentified persons of the RKF management was initiated by Moscow Central Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. The Executive Director and Head Accountant of the RKF were jailed, but the investigation is still in process, and the police is looking for other suspects that could be involved.

On March 13, RKF President Inshakov announced his temporary resignation, with a new election scheduled for April 12. Supposedly this was due in part to alleged improprieties involving funds from the organization which were supposedly repaid. All of these allegations are based on hearsay but are backed up by numerous sources. Sources say when the Executive Director was imprisoned, a conference should have been held to elect new officers to the RKF. Allegedly, that never happened. Our sources claim a corporate takeover of sorts was accomplished with many of the founding members of the RKF left out of the process and unable to vote.

The Russian Hunting Dog Federation (RHDF) has written FCI and offered to take over as the host organization of the 2016 World Dog Show. They claim to have an experienced team capable of putting on international canine events, a strong Board of Trustees, the support of the reputable judges, breeders and breed clubs in Russia and abroad, and a good relationship with the sponsors of the WDS. Our sources claim they are awaiting a response to their request from FCI.

Will the 2016 World Dog Show go off as planned? Who knows. It seems there are many moving parts to this story that must be addressed by FCI sooner rather than later.
