The English Springer Spaniel evolved from land spaniels developed in England, differentiated initially by behavior (springing) and size (bigger). It is the most popular sporting spaniel according to AKC’s 2014 registration statistics. The breed is very competitive in the sporting group, with multiple English Springers often ranked among the top twenty sporting dogs.

Throughout the 1930s and ‘40s Madeleine and James Austin campaigned some of the era’s most legendary dogs under their respective Catawba and Wissaboo banners. Of course, many famous couples have reigned at the top of the dog game. Their substantial accomplishments are generally attributed to cooperative effort. The Austins revised that formula in one notable respect. When it came to that perennially cutthroat business of campaigning specials, they were definitely not teammates.

The fancy is mourning the loss of our dear friend, Roger Hartinger. Roger passed away last week after a short hospital stay. He was 86 years old. Roger and Paula, his wife of 64 years, could be seen hand in hand at most dog shows. Their admiration for one another was heart-warming. Roger was loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by the fancy. Our condolences go out to Paula and Roger’s many children, grandchildren and friends.

The management of an event must be the responsibility of the AKC club which has been approved to hold the event. To fulfill this responsibility, there are activities that must be performed by the host club, sometimes in combination with the management of a cluster of events. Responsibility for these activities cannot be delegated to third party service providers.

A Message from The Star of Bethlehem Cluster Recent regulations revealed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on November 23rd established new indoor event limits of 5% of occupancy as of November 25th making our use of the building impossible.
