As we know, AKC’s 192nd breed, the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen makes its Westminster debut in this year’s Hound Group. All things considered, it’s fair to wonder why it took so long. Its purebred heritage is respectably ancient. Moreover, the compact model, the PBGV–recog- nized way back in 1990–justifiably ranks among AKC’s greatest modern success stories, a fact that has also heightened anticipation for the arrival of the super- sized version.

I was shocked to read that the Armory Art show scheduled to be held at Pier 92 in New York beginning March 7th has been relocated to alternative Piers as a result of a city inspection revealing the Pier is structurally unsafe. Pier 92 was the site for the 143rd Westminster Kennel Club breed judging just a couple of weeks ago. The parking facility on the roof of Pier 92 was closed during Westminster due to the structure’s instability. It seems now that city officials have declared the entire structure to be unsafe, not just the parking structure. It makes one wonder if this will affect next year’s Westminster breed judging?

After the AKC National Championship in Orlando, Florida on December 15 and 16, the Canine Chronicle asked the Group and Best in Show Judges for their comments. This show is well-known for its recognition of owner-handlers and breeders with its Bred by Exhibitor Best in Show and National Owner-Handled Series finals, as well as its Junior Handler completion. The judges of those events were also asked for their comments.
