One of the most difficult decisions a club must make is whether or not to cancel a show. When that decision is not theirs to make, it can be even more frustrating for all of the hard-working volunteers who have worked for an entire year to make that show happen. This past weekend the Gloucester County Kennel Club was given no choice but to cancel their shows in Galloway, New Jersey. While everyone is disappointed, and oftentimes frustrated when cancellations occur, lashing out does not help. Thank you to the Gloucester County Kennel Club for all the hard work. Everyone is looking forward to next year!!!
Before you know it, we will be gathering in Orlando for a celebration of our sport. I am honored once again to bring you Table Talk Live coverage during the entire National Championship week. Those AKC Registered Handler members who have not sent in your grooming reservation, you better hurry!! AKC RHP reserved grooming closes October 29th. Those of you non-RHP members have a bit more time, but not much. Reserved grooming for non-RHP members closes November 15th. Once again there are early closing dates for these shows! Puppy stakes, NOHS finals and breed entries for the AKC National Championship close at 3 PM Central on November 8th. Onofrio is the superintendent. The lead-up shows held Tuesday through Thursday close on November 15th. MB-F is the superintendent for those shows.
While you are in Orlando, do not miss the AKC Canine Health Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser that is held in conjunction with the AKC National Championship! Canines & Cocktails will be held on Thursday evening, December 14th from 7-10 PM at the Rosen Centre Hotel. Save the date for what is always a fun-filled evening.
Congratulations to Hal Biermann who has been on a weight-loss journey. I hear Hal has shed 60 pounds so far! This man has shown great discipline and restraint, losing weight the good old-fashioned way! Keep up the great work, Hal. You look amazing!
Last week I wrote about David Miller’s unfortunate tumble in Mexico that landed him in the hospital. David has since had orthopedic surgery and is starting physical therapy. He will make the journey home as soon as he is mobile enough. David urges his colleagues to get ADSJ travel insurance when traveling. In David’s case, it was more than worth its weight in gold! You never know when an accident is going to happen. That is why they call them accidents, my friends!!
In Nancy Liebes’ own words, “It was bound to happen sooner or later”. Nancy was in an automobile accident landing her in the hospital with multiple broken bones (and a totaled car). In true Nancy fashion, she has a great attitude, and is thankful it was not worse. She was disappointed she had to cancel a judging assignment.
Wayne Cavanaugh was in Newfoundland, Canada recently presenting a seminar to the Canadian Dog Judges Association. This is awesome United States representation for our Canadian counterparts! It looks like Wayne was able to enjoy some amazing scenery and take in some museums while he was there.
Fan Yu and his wife, Amy, recently returned from a great adventure. Fan and Amy, along with their dogs Blossom and Bee, traveled 7000 miles in 25 days! They drove from California to Springfield, Missouri for the Doberman National Specialty, then on to Macungie, Pennsylvania for Montgomery County Kennel Club, then back to California. They had many fun-filled stops along the way. I’m glad that you made it home safe and were able to make so many amazing memories!
Correy and Sarah Krickeberg recently had a great adventure of their own as they traveled to Brazil. Safe travels home, guys.
Congratulations to Brittani Cornelius who recently had her first day of work in 4 ½ years–as a veterinary technician! I am sure you will knock it out of the park, once again, Brittani!
Sincere condolences to Shawn Nichols who recently lost his father. We are thinking of you at this most difficult time.
It brings me great sorrow to pass on the sad news that Greg Reyna lost his valiant, brutal battle with cancer last week. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Greg knows what a smart, gifted, passionate man he was. Greg was an artist, he owned a grooming shop, he was a breeder, a handler and–most importantly–Greg was an incredible person. Our sympathies go out to Greg’s partner, Dennis. He will be sorely missed by the fancy, and all of his dear friends. Greg is now out of pain and watching over us all.
Several fanciers are celebrating anniversaries this week: Tim and Lisa Thomas, Janice Hayes and Eric Ciceron, Katherine and Jody Smoot, and Tammy and Greg Bohlke are all adding another year to their wedded bliss! May you have many more great years ahead.
