The Coyote Cluster of dog shows in Tucson, AZ is over for another year. Many fanciers in attendance will continue on to Chandler, AZ next week. The entries in Chandler are up about 200, which is a positive sign that relocating their cluster to November from March is catching on. Congratulations to the cluster for their perseverance and hard work to keep this cluster going strong! I can only hope that those continuing on to this set of shows will enjoy the same incredible weather that we had in Tucson at the Pima County Fairgrounds. A big thank you for the fantastic hospitality provided by the hard-working volunteers at the Coyote Cluster this year. Another job well done, my friends!
It is really hard to believe that we are in mid-November already! The excitement is ramping up for the AKC National Championship in Orlando in a few weeks. The closing date was extended for one day, and breed counts have been posted. For more information, you can go to www.caninechronicle.com or www.onofrio.com.
The invite list for the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club is now posted. For the complete list, you can go to www.infodog.com. Due to the structural issues at the Piers, and the reduced space available, Westminster has gone back to Champions only for their 2020 show. The top 5 in breed competition as of the end of October, 2019 have received invites, and all champions are eligible to enter.
Many of you exhibitors are in a race to achieve your goal for the year. That goal may be a breed ranking goal, an all-breed ranking goal, a National Owner Handled Series goal, finishing a champion, or achieving a ROM, to name just a few. I wish the best of luck to each and every one of you as you work toward your year-end goals. Enjoy each moment as you travel along your journey.
The sport lost a dear friend this past week. Our dear friend Nina Fetter lost not only her mom, but a best friend as Ellen Fetter passed away on her 77th birthday. Ellen had suffered from a lot of illness over the past couple of years and Nina was incredibly dedicated to caring for and helping her mom. Nina and Ellen had the type of mother-daughter relationship that is the envy of so many. Rest In Peace, Ms. Ellie; you will be sorely missed by the fancy. Nina, you may have lost your mom and best friend, but you have gained an angel.
Celebrating anniversaries this week are George and Cathy Milutinovich along with Courtney and William Bastian. May you lovebirds enjoy many more years of health and happiness together.
Celebrating birthdays this week are: Jason Hoke, Michael Hill, Michele Abati, Linda Rowley, Don Gillett, Carla Link Vaughn, Shari Smith, Ray Harrington and Courtney Bastian.
I would love to hear from you if you are interested in participating in a Breed Priority segment either in Orlando or in New York in February! I am also interested in speaking with any of you who may have ideas for special interest segments that our fancy would find interesting or inspirational. Please reach out to me at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com.
Safe travels to all! Please don’t forget to thank the hard-working, show-giving volunteers! Be kind to your fellow exhibitors, be kind to the judges, and try to lend a helping hand to someone at least once at the next show you attend! Until next time…
