Table Talk

And I’m off! I’m on my way to one of the greatest dog shows on earth and I am excited to see all my friends that I only get to see a couple of times year. I enjoy watching and reading about everyone’s travels on social media. It is really amazing to me how social media has brought us all closer together and has truly made it easier for us to connect at large dog shows such as the AKC National Championship week in Orlando.

While the move-in line was long, and there was a good amount of stress regarding the availability of grooming space leading up to the show, we need to tip our hats to Harry Miller and his “orange crew” for once again doing an outstanding job of facilitating one of the largest dog show set-ups. If you see an “orange coat” or Harry himself, please give them a nod and a thank you. These guys work their butts off for us!

For those of our friends who can’t make it to Orlando this year (and even those of you who are joining us), we are going to be doing live feeds on The Canine Chronicle Facebook page. Look out for me, Cheslie or Alex with our iPad camera in tow. We would love to have you join us! In addition, we will be doing a live broadcast (maybe more) of Table Talk, which should be great fun!

After a short 12 hour turnaround at home after my return from the Shoreline/Malibu Cluster in Costa Mesa, I want to thank my hubby, Robert, for the help and support! I would never have been able to pull this off without him. He is truly the oil that keeps yours truly’s machine running.

The Costa Mesa shows are one of my favorite clusters. Even though many are focused on leaving for Orlando, the shows are festive and the camaraderie is great. Sadly, this year we missed Debbie Campbell Freeman who was keeping a watchful on her home as those around her were burning. I believe Debbie’s home was the last left standing on the hill she lives on which is so very frightening. Jorge Olivera had to leave early to go home to evacuate their farm animals and the remaining dogs in their kennel as the fires spread to San Diego county.

Kudos to Val Atkinson who organized a collection of donations for the barns that were severely impacted by the fires. Val organized donations of dog food, clothing, and other essentials and took the time to deliver them before she left for Florida Sunday morning.

In the current climate of a few clubs folding due to lack of participation, it is very encouraging that the San Joaquin Kennel Club celebrated their 100-year anniversary at the shows held a couple weeks ago in Stockton, California. San Joaquin and Golden Valley Kennel Club joined together to form a new four-day cluster. I understand it was great!

Desi Murphy has really been logging the miles as he was off for a quick trip to China before leaving for the Orlando cluster.

Jay Serion and his family are off on holiday to Hawaii. Jay, you will be missed in Florida!

Best wishes to Pilar Kuhn who will begin her cancer treatment on December 18th. Your dog family is behind you and we all wish you the best for a speedy, complete recovery.

Best wishes go out to Leslie Potts who will be having surgery soon. We hope you are back to full health quickly!

Peggy Beisel-Mcilwaine and her groom are celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary! You guys must have been married as toddlers. May you celebrate many more happy, healthy years together.

A very special Happy Birthday to Dick Vail, the announcer at the Southern California shows who is celebrating his 80th birthday. Dick is a very special part of the Southern California shows and we wish him the best!

Also celebrating birthdays this week are Marilyn Funke, Paul Catterson, Luke Ehricht and Rachel Adams.

A kind reminder to those exhibitors in Orlando: this show has a large gate with many spectators. It is an opportunity to educate the public and encourage folks to get involved in our sport. Please don’t miss an opportunity to do so. In addition, keep those negative comments for your set-ups, and please use your inside voices. Remember there is now Facebook live and you might not want to be the star of that show!

Safe travels to all, good luck, and we will see you at the show!!!!!

Until next time…
