Table Talk

I hope that Mother Nature is done directing her wrath at the good citizens of our nation for a while. Many of our friends in Florida evacuated with their animals and are now contemplating the return and dreading the cleanup. Fortunately, from what I have heard, things could have been a lot worse. However, “Irma” did wreak a lot of havoc with people’s lives and caused a great degree of damage, displacing so many and destroying so much. I’m sending good thoughts to those who have suffered damage and loss. Please email me to let us know your personal stories.

I spent last weekend at the Santa Ana Kennel Club shows held in Irwindale, California at Santa Fe Dam. This is opposed to last year’s lovely show grounds at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The club encountered this difficult situation due to the past Show Chair resigning while not having things in order such as reserving the date with the fairgrounds for the next shows. This is an unfortunate circumstance for a great club. Securing a venue and putting a panel together at the last minute is certainly challenging. Hopefully the club will be able to recruit a couple of experienced conformation members to assist them with next year’s show. There are now 3 different sets of shows in California this same weekend so exhibitors have a choice regarding where to spend their entry dollars. This affects the entries of all the shows in that area.

The North Branch Cluster was also held this past weekend and reports once again are positive. Kudos to the show committee for hosting a well-run cluster.

The Greeley, Colorado shows were held this past weekend and once again got a nice entry. Unfortunately, Mike Brantley was attacked by a dog while lying face down getting a massage and was taken to the hospital to have emergency surgery. Our dog family once again rose to the challenge and helped care for Mike’s dogs while making certain he was taken care of as well. Surgery went well and Mike is now recovering, with a full recovery expected. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery!

It is with great sadness that we bid a fond farewell to GCh. Lomondview Clementina aka “Phoebe” who was beautifully piloted by Ernesto Lara. “Phoebe” died at the age of 11. She was multiple Best In Show and Best In Specialty Show winner, was the #1 Scottish Terrier in 2011 and 2012, and the #2 Terrier in 2012. “Phoebe” most certainly left a legacy behind and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Condolences to Beep and Shari Lee and family on the loss of Beep’s brother, Bruce, who passed away this past week at the age of 61.

The Cypress Creek Kennel Club and Galveston County Kennel Clubs WILL hold their shows on November 10, 11 and 12th. The premium list was not sent out in a timely manner and many have been questioning whether the shows were going to happen. The shows WILL go on my friends!

A very happy anniversary to Debbie Melgreen and her hubby who are celebrating 42 years of marriage. Debbie must have been a child bride! Also celebrating anniversaries this week are Kathy and Dave Musto and Kim and Rick Rudzik. We wish many more years of wedded bliss to each of you!

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Janet Wodrich, Nancy Hritzo Trangmar, Susan St. John Brown, Richard Lawless, Billy Ellis, Grahm Miller, Michael Shepherd and Holley Eldred.

Gene Blake is celebrating his 81st Birthday! He and Julie have spent 40 of those 81 birthdays together! Enjoy guys and may there be many, many more!

Please keep in touch my friends and be safe wherever your travels take you. Remember to be kind to the “newbies” you may run into at shows and lend them a helping hand.

Until next time…
