I hope everyone had a great Labor Day! Whether your preference was rest and relaxation with your beloved canines, an adventure with friends and family, or a trip to one of the many dog shows around the country, the important thing is that you celebrated the weekend with loved ones!
There were many options for dog shows to attend this past weekend. In the Midwest alone there were 4 clusters ranging in entry from 2,000 (Lexington, KY) to 253 (the Marquette Michigan cluster that offered two shows in one day). I heard this would be the last year for the shows in Smithfield, Ohio. Their entry was 485 on Saturday. They have a lovely location for their show, but I’m afraid that there are just too many shows on the holiday weekend for all of these clusters to survive. Have you heard the saying, “Just because you can does not mean you should”? Nowadays, a 250-mile drive for “hard core” road warriors is a piece of cake which makes it hard for shows to make a profit when other shows in close proximity are held at the same time.
Healing thoughts to our friend Will Alexander who is experiencing health challenges that are preventing him from working. Will’s son started a Go Fund Me campaign to try to lessen the stress on Will. Friends interested in helping can donate by going to:
Will is a long-time fancier, and a dear friend who would do the same for others in need.

Please keep your eyes open for a Table Talk Live! segment with Westminster Kennel Club President Donald Sturz the week of September 9th. We’ll have more information about the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show! If you have specific questions, please email me at Deb.Cooper@caninechronicle.com and I’ll be sure to include them in our segment.
Those of us who breed, and place puppies need to exercise caution when allowing “strangers” in our homes to meet our pups. This issue is always a double-edged sword: We need to be able to talk with potential puppy buyers face to face to ensure a proper fit, but it is always scary to allow strangers in our homes. Sadly, Doberman Pinscher breeder Paul Peavey was murdered by an intruder, or someone he allowed in his home, and a litter of at least 8 puppies was stolen. Friends in the community of Idaho Springs, Colorado organized a search when Paul hadn’t been seen or heard from in several days. He was found murdered on his property, the house wide open, and the puppies were gone. A person of interest has been arrested, and the puppies have not yet been found. It is possible that the puppies may be sold through social media or by other means. If you know of anyone who purchased a Doberman puppy in the central Colorado area recently, please ask them to check for a microchip and contact the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s office at 303-679-2393 or email admin@clearcreeksheriff.us.
Robin and Cindy Stansell have been enjoying R&R and sightseeing in New Zealand prior to their judging assignment. Unfortunately, Cindy fell and broke her hip and is now awaiting surgery. Healing thoughts are with Cindy as she recovers from surgery, and they make their trip back home to the states!
Congratulations to Amanda Giles and Daniel Martin on the birth of their baby girl, Rowan Donnie Martin. Mom and baby are doing well! Best wishes to the family.
Happy Anniversary wishes to Pam and Bob Lambie and Natalie and Adam Kowalczyk! Best wishes for many more happy, healthy, and prosperous years ahead!
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include: Eddie Dziuk, Beep Lee, Brianne Major-Weber, Connie Clark, Darla Kays-Daugherty, Julie Wilkinson, Bonny Datema and Lisa Thomas. Make your special day a great one, my friends!
If you have not purchased your tickets for the AKC Museum of the Dog Wine reception to be held after Best In Show on Saturday September 28th at the Wine Country circuit, there is still time! Tickets are $60. If you would like to raise a glass to the Museum of the Dog, you can go to the Canine Chronicle Facebook page and search for the event and scan the QR code. I look forward to seeing you there!
Please remember this, my friends! Make a habit of not holding someone’s past against them. When someone works hard to grow and change into a better person, allow them to show up as that person!
Please be safe in your travels and be kind to those around you! I will see you soon down the road! Until next time…
