Let’s get this party started!!! I am finally packed for Morris & Essex and Montgomery County KC week! You would think I never packed for a dog show before based on the amount of time it took me to pack. Here’s hoping that my hat(s) make it unscathed. I thought about putting a “fragile – handle with care” sticker on my bag, but I suppose that is all I need to do to ensure the baggage handlers give it a good, not so gentile, toss! I look forward to seeing everyone–great outfits, great hats, and of course, gorgeous dogs!! We have an early start time, folks. My thoughts are with those of you who were lucky enough to score a 7:30 AM ring time!!
If you are unable to attend, I will be providing Table Talk Live! coverage and Elaine Lessig will have the glam cam rolling so those of you at home will not miss any great outfits!! AKC TV will be providing the Group and Best In Show coverage. Montgomery County Kennel Club will also be streaming on AKC TV on Sunday.
The Kennel Club of Philadelphia show in November is a go! It’s back to four days again, too! Exhibitors who plan to attend should keep in mind that proof of vaccination will be required. The Kennel Club of Philadelphia cluster will be utilizing the CLEAR app to administer their COVID requirements.
The premium list for the 2022 Westminster Kennel Club show to be held in January has been out for about a week. Breed judging will be held on Pier 36 this year and it will NOT be benched. Entries will be limited to 2500 dogs that are Champions only. Entries for Westminster close on November 19th at 3:00 PM EST. WKC is tracking COVID regulations carefully and currently plans on not allowing spectators for breed judging; however, tickets are being sold for group judging at Madison Square Garden. I will be catching up with Gail Miller Bisher during our live coverage this week, so be sure to keep your eye out for a chat with Gail on CanineChronicle.tv and our Facebook page!
Congratulations to Alicia Morrison Jones’ hubby, Jeff Jones, on his recent promotion to Master Chief of the US Coast Guard! Thank you for your service, Jeff, and thank you for your sacrifice, Alicia and family!
I am pleased to report that Johnny Shoemaker has recovered from his COVID illness and will be judging at Morris & Essex. I am certain that his outfit will not disappoint!
It is hard to believe that this week marks the 20th anniversary of the movie Best In Show. I remember clearly when my husband went to the theater to see the movie; I, of course, was at a dog show. He phoned me when he returned home and said, “I felt like everyone was laughing at us.” So many of my “non-dog” friends and family asked how accurate the movie was; You be the judge! Personally, I think it was pretty close!
Happy anniversary to Remy and Karissa Smith-Lewis. Remy and Karissa are nearing the end of their new home build. Enjoy, my friends, and congratulations on your new abode!
Damara Bolté celebrated her 90th birthday this past week! Damara, an icon in our sport, is best-known for her involvement in the Basenji breed as a breeder, handler, and mentor.
Other fanciers celebrating birthdays this week are: Daniel Martin, Cindy Stansell, Loran Morgan, Corey Benedict (Corey was able to celebrate his birthday at his favorite place – Jackson Hole, Wyoming with good friends, and his husband, Brent), Karen Mammano, Amy Duncan, Anna Stromberg, Gia Garofalo and Jon Cole. Enjoy your special day, my friends!
Many thanks to Scott Pfeil for this week’s thought: Winning is amazing…spending time with friends is priceless!
Wherever your travels take you, be safe. Whichever show you attend, be kind and lend a hand. May the days ahead bring you beautiful puppies, lots of cherished good times and the opportunity to learn something new. Enjoy the moment, my friends. Until next time…
