It’s hard to believe, but Fall has arrived here in the Midwest. Our show year is in its 4th quarter and those racing for rankings will be turning it up in the quest to achieve their goals. Keep your eye on the goal, my friends, but be safe, and be sensible.

Thank goodness Lisa Croft-Elliott continues to have an angel sitting on her shoulder! While traveling to the shows in Maryland, the rig she and Anibal Faria were traveling in had a brake failure. While the rig is totaled, all humans and canines are safe!

Janice Hayes and “Buddy Holly”, the 2023 Westminster Kennel Club Best In Show winners, represented the sport of purebred dogs in style at the Paint El Paseo Pink Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness. El Paseo is one of my favorite places to go when I am in Southern California, and I am sorry I missed this great event! Thank you, Janice and Buddy, for representing us in style!

One of my favorite events at Specialties is watching the veteran classes. I always have a tissue in my pocket, and it seems I always need it! If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to stay for the veteran classes and, most importantly, clap for them!

Our healing thoughts are with dog show photographer Pete Melia who was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Pete is healing from a rare spine bleed and is under strict instructions from his doctors to rest, take it easy and heal. We miss you, Pete, but we want you back at the shows, so please rest up. We will see you when you are back to full health!

Those of us who know, and love Tiffany Skinner understand she is one of the hardest working professionals in our sport. One too many left-handed circles required her have a knee replacement. Now recovering from surgery, Tiffany will be back stronger than ever. We will now be referring to her as “Bionic Tiff”.  Take it easy, my friend.  We will be here waiting for you when you are healed up and ready to go.

I hear David Miller is currently hospitalized in Pereira, Columbia after a fall on some stairs at the place he was judging. He tells us that his femur is fractured, and they are recommending a hip replacement. I will keep everyone updated about David’s condition. Hang in there, my friend!

Congratulations to Betty Jo Pyle and her husband, Brandon, and “gran” Jen Costantinidis on the birth of Maxwell Pyle  Mom and baby are already out and about!  Best wishes to the family.

Our most sincere condolences to Rhonda Cassidy for the loss of her beloved mother. We are thinking of you and your family at this most difficult time.

The fancy has suffered another loss this past week. Whippet fancier and AKC judge “Dr. Todd”, Aaron Todd Miller, lost his 7-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Todd was a gift to the sport of purebred dogs and was deeply loved by those that had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed by all who knew him.

After a long, valiant battle with cancer, Chris Margeson has passed away. Jeff, words cannot bring you enough comfort at this difficult time, but please find comfort in knowing the fancy is here for you. In lieu of flowers, Chris and Jeff wanted donations to be made to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue foundation honoring John “Chris” Dale-Margeson https://secure.givelively.org/…/honoring-john-chris….  We will all remember Chris as a kind soul who was dedicated to helping less fortunate animals.

Six months ago, Bob and Vicky Margolis, Weimaraner fanciers from Southern California, retired and relocated to North Carolina.  Sadly, Bob’s retirement ended abruptly when he passed away from a massive heart attack. The fancy wishes Vicky, her family, and friends our condolences at this difficult time.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Kristin and John Lyons, and Pilar Kuhn and Rod Ott.  Best wishes for a continued journey filled with prosperity and kindness.

Happy Birthday to the nation’s all-time winning Boxer “Wilma” aka GCHP2 Cinnibon’s Bedrock Bombshell who just celebrated her 8th birthday!  With 133 Best In Shows and 90 Specialty Best In Shows, “Wilma” and her handler Michael Shepherd (assisted by Dottie James), achieved the honor of becoming the Top Winning Boxer of all time. Happy Birthday, Wilma Jean!

Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include:  Kasey (Twinnie) O’Brien, Lacy Bauer, Ray Filburn, Jamie Hubbard, Amy Rodrigues, Stevie Wei, Brad Jenkins, Kathy Heimann, Sandy Mesmer, Ethan Coye and Annie Balotti. Make it a great one, my friends!

Thanks to Danelle Brown for this week’s thought:  Genetics make good dogs. Handlers title good dogs. Titles do not make good dogs!!

Be safe out there, my friends. Pace yourselves and remember to make time to be kind! I’ll see you down the road! Until next time…
