Table Talk · March 10, 2021

Elaine Lessig’s article regarding face masks, in the current issue of CC, resonated with me. It is called The Big E – Emotional Masks, and you can read it online at: http://caninechronicle.com/current-articles/the-big-e-emotional-masks.   The last time I was at a dog show, The AKC National Championship in Orlando 2020, I found that I could see smiles through people’s eyes. Interestingly enough, I feel I can read people’s eyes better if I am closer to them. I look forward to the day when I can see the faces of my friends again! I still catch myself doing my grin and nod, (Which I have done for years when I’m in a hurry and can’t stop to talk) before realizing that no one can see my smile! I am trying to learn to smile with my eyes!

I am disappointed that I am not preparing to head to Louisville for the Kentuckiana Cluster of Dog Shows, but I do look forward to my annual trek in 2022

I am beyond excited that I am getting ready to attend a dog show out west. Yes, my friends, you heard that right, a dog show out west! If you plan to attend the Silver State Kennel Club shows in Henderson, Nevada, on April 3rd & 4th, please be sure to drop me a line at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com as I would love to catch up with you!

The Tarheel Circuit is coming up this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina. These clubs are in need of ring stewards, so if you are able to help, please reach out to Marilyn Currey, shoot me an email, or stop by the club table and let them know your schedule and availability.

The River Valley Cluster in Owensboro, Kentucky, will be held August 26-29, 2021. If you are available to help with set-up or RV parking, please email cluster chair Cindi Bosley at cindibosley@gmail.com.

The judging panel for Morris & Essex, October 6, 2021, has been published! You can find the information on our online events calendar at caninechronicle.com. Specialty Clubs interested in having a specialty or supported entry at M&E should contact Lorraine Bisso at regel@bellsouth.net or Wayne Ferguson at wferguson129@comcast.net.

If you have perused the AKC job vacancies recently, you might have noticed an opening for an AKC Field Representative located in the Texas area. After many years of dedicated service, Sue Vroom has decided to retire at the end of April. Congratulations on your much-deserved retirement, my friend. You will be sorely missed by all!

Congratulations to Remy and Karissa Smith-Lewis, who are building their new home in Southern California!

Heidi Hartman, who doesn’t even look like she could possibly be old enough to be a grandma, has just been blessed with her second grandson, Henry. After a rocky start, momma Caroline and baby are doing fine. Congratulations to all on this wonderful addition to your family!

I heard that Tuni and Ernie Conti spent Tuni’s birthday at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I hope you had a great birthday and enjoyed the fun and the sun in true Tuni style!

David Miller took a much-deserved trip to Cancun, Mexico but unfortunately while there, he took a bit of a fall. Upon returning to the States, and while judging on the Florida circuit, he experienced pain from his accident. David went to the doctor and found out his pain was due to a broken wrist and a hairline fracture of his ribs! He will be having surgery to repair his wrist and will be as good as new very soon! Best wishes for a speedy recovery, David.

Denise Tatro is recovering from hip surgery due to a slip and fall accident. Here’s hoping you are up and around quickly Denise!

Congratulations to Megan Cloudman’s husband, Chris, who will be running for Mayor of DeLand, Florida, in August of 2022. I am sure life will be exciting for the Cloudmans over the next year! Best wishes to you both.

Vicki Seiler-Cushman has been very busy recently working on her new venture, The Glazed Donut Eatery, in Xenia, Ohio. Demolition has commenced on the project with hopes for an opening date of June 5th, which just happens to be National Donut Day! If you want to follow the progress, check out their Facebook page at: Glazed Donut Eatery. Be sure to make plans to stop in and sample their wares if you are driving through the Cincinnati area!

It is heart-warming to see that over the past nine months, The Humane Society of Missouri COVID relief grant has distributed over 120,000 pounds of food for animals in need. This grant was made possible, in part, by food donations from Purina and a $21,500 donation from PetSmart Charities.

I found out that proceeds from the Dog People Can Cook cookbook will be donated to Take the Lead and the FIDO Pet Food Bank. These two very worthy causes are near and dear to my heart. If you have not already ordered your cookbook, you can reach out to Virginia Murray. At the rate the books are being ordered, the title should reach the New York Times Top 10 in no time!

Celebrating birthdays this week are: Keith Bailey, Red Tatro, Lois DeMers, Tara Martin-Rowell, Chip Rainwater, Kellie Fitzgerald, Lauren Hay-Lavitt, Diana Wilson, and Jean Hargis. I hope you all have a fabulous b-day!

The show calendar for late spring, summer, and fall are looking pleasantly busy! I strongly recommend that you use the Canine Chronicle Events Calendar to plan your show schedule. You can access it directly at: http://caninechronicleshowcalendar.com/K9shows.php?rand=4538 Feel free to reach out to me if you need help using this handy tool!

Be safe out there, my friends! I look forward to seeing you soon. I encourage you to lend a hand where you can, and please show appreciation to the hard-working volunteers that are bringing our shows back! Until next time…
