Table Talk · June 5, 2024
Even though we have a couple of weeks before the “official” start of summer, the feel of summer weather is already here! I am excited to bring you Table Talk Live! coverage from the 2024 Woofstock cluster in Vallejo, California this year! As previously reported, this is the last year this event will be a four-day cluster. Next year the celebration of Peace, Love and Dogs will be a two-day event. One of the favorite traditions of Woofstock is the “Old Coots Booth”, and I have been lucky enough to be invited to hang out there and catch some great questions (and answers). Please be sure to stop by the Old Coots Booth with a question, and let’s share it with all of those fanciers who were unable to attend via Table Talk Live! in person. So, get your hippie on and join in the fun!
National Specialty season is in full swing. We would love to share your National Specialty wins with the fancy via our Facebook page and website. Please remember that National Specialty wins are self-reported. Please send an email to showresults@caninechronicle.com that includes a candid win photo, name of the show, location, judge, registered name of the dog, owners, breeders, and handler. Results will be posted within in a timely manner depending on the number of submissions we receive.
Fanciers in the Pacific Northwest will be seeing a familiar face sitting behind the Ba-Ray Superintendent Table. Andrew Mueller began his next chapter in life with his new career as a dog show superintendent. Andrew will be sorely missed by Tiffany Skinner, as he has been her ‘ride or die’ for quite some time. Best wishes to you, Andrew! I know you will excel in anything you choose to do, my friend!
I was saddened to hear that Ron Lombardi passed away recently. I worked with Ron while putting on the International Kennel Club of Chicago dog shows back when it was one of the premier events in the nation. Ron was always a pleasure to work with. He worked very hard coordinating the many off-duty Chicago Police Officers who helped with parking, load-in and load-out for IKC, and he was always willing to help in any way possible. I always enjoyed visiting with Ron–he was truly one of the good guys. Ron and Pat, his wife of 59 years, bred over 100 Standard Schnauzer champions under the Bardwood kennel name. When they moved to Florida, Ron and Pat joined the Pasco, Florida Kennel Club and became very active in the Florida Circuit. Even though he moved to Florida, I told Ron that he would always be a Midwesterner to me!!! Ron was 88 years old when he passed away. He will be sorely missed by the fancy. Sincere condolences to Pat, and the rest of his family and friends at this sad time.
Sadly, Shetland Sheepdog fancier and AKC Judge Robert (Bob) Olsen passed away unexpectedly this past weekend doing what he loved most: showing his Sheltie. The community rallied around Bob and ensured that his dogs were cared for and his family was notified of his death. Bob was a passionate and dedicated fancier who was loved by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be missed.
Sarah Congleton’s ACL surgery is done, and she is home recuperating! Be sure to reach out to her and let her know you are thinking about her. She has a long 6–8-week recovery ahead of her but that time will pass quickly. We look forward to seeing you back at shows in August!
Dennis O’Connor’s mother Terri had a bit of set back with her post-surgery recovery when she suffered a heart attack. Fortunately, she was still in the hospital, and they were able to stabilize her quickly. Positive thoughts go out to Terri and Dennis, and we wish Terri a fast and full recovery!
This week is a big week for anniversaries! Happy Anniversary to Colton and Heather Johnson, Erin and Keith Olsen, Jerry Klein and Daniel Wangler, Gina and Cliff Weiser, Terri and Paul Erickson, Luke and Rowan Baggenstos and Krystal and Keith Sullivan. May the year ahead bring all of you wonderful couples many good times filled with unlimited love.
Fanciers celebrating birthdays this week include: Rita Holloway, Shawn Nichols, Kellie Miller, John Miller, Judy Ellis, Lois Snyder, Karen Kurtzner, Vienna Yeadon, Terry Chacon, Daniel Chavez and Jordan Olivera. Make your special day a great one!
This week I share with you the Poem of a Dog:
I am the one who always waits for you. Your car has a special sound that I have imprinted on my senses, and I can recognize it among a thousand. Your steps have a magic timbre. Your voice is music to my ears. If I see your joy, it makes me happy! Your scent is the best. Your presence is what moves my senses. Your awakening wakes me up. I watch you sleep and for me you are my everything. Your gaze is a ray of light. Your hands on me have the lightness of peace and sublime display of infinite love. When you go out, I feel a huge emptiness in my heart. I wait for you again and again. I am the one who will wait for you all my life today, tomorrow, and always. I am your dog.
Be safe out there, my friends! For those of you joining the celebration of Peace, Love and Dogs in Vallejo, I can’t wait to see you there! Until next time…
