“FLUID.” I have used the word “fluid” daily over the past few weeks to describe the current dog show environment. Just when you think you have a plan, things change. If we stay flexible and work together, our sport and all involved will benefit. During times like this no idea should be deemed a bad idea unless it is investigated thoroughly. Most important, if an idea or potential alternative is offered, the author of that idea should not be judged. Perhaps offer a different alternative, and if you can’t come up with one try to work within the framework offered and see if you can figure out a way to make it work.
“MAKE IT WORK.” We should all be using the words “make it work” daily during these times. We all miss each other. We all miss doing what we know and love. We need to come up with ways to make our sport work during these unprecedented times. I am asking everyone to spend any available time and energy to help the cause: Think of ideas to make our shows the best exhibitor and judge experience they can be; talk them through with your club members and send them to me so I can offer them through this medium for discussion. Send any and all thoughts and ideas to me at deb.cooper@caninechronicle.com.
Please do not expend energy judging individuals for ideas they have to help our sport. Look for ways you can help. Are you attending the first shows being held since March in Oklahoma at the end of the month? Have you given thought to how you can help make them a success? The folks that put the Oklahoma cluster together worked really hard to make those shows happen. Have you given a shout-out to them to thank them? Be part of the solution, my friends. We all want our sport back. We need to be prepared to be flexible. Along with that flexibility comes the need to be respectful of the opinions of others. The Oklahoma shows have been deemed ‘The Learning Cluster’ for a reason. (The governor of Oklahoma gave the shows special recognition - https://caninechronicle.com/breaking-news/governor-j-kevin-stitt-proclaims-june-27-30th-as-the-learning-cluster-weekend-in-the-state-of-oklahoma/ ) They will be testing out different procedures to see what works best for dog shows in the current climate of COVID-19.
If we are all smart, considerate, and careful, we can move past this shutdown together. I don’t know about everyone else, but I am ready to have my dog family back.
The Vancouver Kennel Club announced they are proceeding with their shows on October 24th and 25th. They also have the site on Friday, October 23rd and Lee Whittier has suggested that specialty clubs looking for a location, or group shows wanting to have a show should consider the Vancouver site on Friday. Those interested can contact Lee Whittier via Facebook Messenger.
The International Heart Classic has extended the closing date for their virtual show to July 4th and a Veteran division has been added. To enter or view the premium list, please go to www.executivedogshows.com. Videos will be due by July 5th.
Those of you who feed Purina Pro Plan formulas other than Sport 30/20 Chicken, Salmon or Focus Sensitive Skin and Stomach may have had a difficult time finding the other formulas. In order to keep up with the demand for Sport and Sensitive Skin and Stomach over the past couple of months, Purina suspended manufacturing of some of the less popular formulas. The good news is production on the other formulas has started up again and the product is making its way through the pipeline! If anyone has specific questions, please feel free to reach out to me.
I was saddened to hear that long-time Western Reserve Kennel Club member Peg Gross passed away suddenly last week. Peg was known for her Schipperke and Finnish Spitz shown and bred under the Roadrunner kennel name. Peg will be greatly missed by the fancy, but most of all she will be missed by her family and her dear friends with the Western Reserve Kennel Club.
