Welcome back my friends! Just like that, we are all back to checking our phones and computers for daily updates from the shows! It sure doesn’t take long to forget that we had a break! These days, however, each time exhibitors set out for a show, they are thankful for the opportunity to do so! Congratulations to those hard-working volunteers at the Nolan River shows in Glen Rose, Texas and the Clemson Kennel Club in Pendleton, South Carolina for putting on safe, successful shows. The weather in Glen Rose did not disappoint: Fanciers can count on “chili”, wet conditions–and this year was no different. A bit of snow and breezy temps would not stop the show-giving club or exhibitors from having a great time!
While it was initially thought that the American Spaniel Club would have to cancel their show due to Tennessee Government COVID protocol, club volunteers would not let up and I am happy to announce that the show WILL go on! The American Spaniel Club will be held at the Ocala, Florida showgrounds from January 15-17!!! Congratulations to all for thinking outside the box and moving to a new venue. I am certain that the ASC board made this decision in the best interest of the sport and ALL of their exhibitors! Best of luck to all of our friends attending this iconic spaniel show. I am so glad to see that this tradition will continue without interruption!
I had the chance to catch up with George Milutinovich and talk about the upcoming Sun Maid Kennel Club shows scheduled for February 6-7, 2021 in Fresno, California. The dedicated members of Sun Maid KC are proceeding with preparations for their show. It is my hope that fanciers will join me in supporting the efforts of these club members who are trying so hard to hold this show in locked-down California.
The premium list for the Pensacola Dog Fanciers Association will be available on January 21st, with entries accepted 72 hours later. There is no limit for this show! Happy entering, my friends!
The Licking River Kennel Club and the Medina Kennel Club have joined forces to hold a four-day cluster at the Lima Kennel Club showgrounds in Lima, Ohio from June 17-20. The Lima showgrounds is an excellent alternative for all-breed and specialty clubs that are looking for an outdoor show venue in the Midwest!
The 2020 AKC National Championship will air on ABC this Sunday, January 17th at 2 PM Eastern Standard Time. I encourage everyone to tell their “non-dog” friends about the broadcast, as it is great outreach for our sport. This is a great opportunity to show the “non-dog show” world how we can hold a fun dog show and do it safely!
Many exhibitors are driving as far as 2,500 miles to attend the shows in Brooksville, Florida this coming weekend. With an entry of over 3,000 dogs, it shows that our sport is strong and holding steady as we reach the other side of these crazy times.
Congratulations to ‘Crom’ the Corso and his faithful companion, Elizabeth Salewsky, for receiving the Cane Corso Association of America People’s Choice Award for 2020! If you have not had the opportunity, I encourage you to check out the ‘Cromicles’ fun-filled videos on our Facebook page and on Canine Chronicle TV at caninechronicle.tv!
I was saddened to hear about the passing of Dog Show Superintendent Foy Trent’s “right hand woman” Cherri Johnsen. Our thoughts are with Cherri’s family, and Foy and Cherri’s friends at this most difficult time.
The fancy is mourning the loss of beloved AKC Judge Don Sutton. Don was a respected AKC judge and was closely involved in the sport of purebred dogs for many decades. Our most sincere sympathy to his partner, Steve Keating, and his many friends following this tremendous loss.
Supportive, healing thoughts to Gwen DeMilta as she undergoes cancer treatment. We are here for you, Gwen! We know you’ve got this!
Congratulations to Jamie Hubbard for your successful completion of the US Citizenship test and interview! Jamie’s swearing-in ceremony will be some time in the next few months.
Celebrating birthdays this week are: Garry Newton, Ken Latimer, Tara Schultz, Maggie Peat, Karen Livingston, Rhanda Glenn, Tina Dougan, Cheslie Pickett-Smithey, Courtney Kniola, Maddie McCue, Patti Jason, Nancy Liebes, Anne Cullen-Tormey, Evie Gregory and Cliff Wieser. May each of you have a great birthday filled with your favorite things.
Be safe in your travels and be kind to your fellow exhibitors. Take a minute to thank the hard-working show volunteers. Without them, we would not have these wonderful shows during such uncertain times. Don’t let the ugly in others kill the beauty in you!!! Until next time…
