Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope you all take time during this short break between show years to rest, recharge, spend time with loved ones and reflect on the past year. During this time many dogs go home to begin the next chapter of their life. Let us not forget to show those dogs love and appreciation for the ride they took you on in 2023.
Either the years are getting shorter, or time is passing by very quickly. It is for this reason I ask you to enjoy the moment as you begin a new year! There are always ups and downs, but as a new year begins, please remember to focus on the positive and learn from those “downs”. Before we know it, we will be back in Orlando for the AKC National Championship in 2024!
As I was watching group judging at one of the lead-up shows in Orlando, it occurred to me that an entire year was riding on the results of that group to determine #1 and #2 dogs in the herding group. I had butterflies in my stomach for the two competitor teams who worked their butts off for an entire year. The two handlers, Kent Boyles with his German Shepherd Dog, GCH Kaleef’s Mercedes and Jessica Ploudre with her Australian Shepherd, GCHP Northbay Xsell That’s A Wrap were supportive of each other and demonstrated incredible sportsmanship that each and every one of us should take note of and follow in their footsteps. Congratulations to both of you for setting an amazing example. You should be very proud of your accomplishment and your amazing camaraderie throughout the year!
The 2023 AKCNC will be televised on ABC December 31st at 2:00 PM Eastern Time.
Congratulations to Joan Scott on her retirement from handling. Best wishes for your next chapter. We hope to see you center ring in the future.

Don’t start your day with broken pieces of yesterday. Every day is a fresh start. Every day is a new beginning. Every morning we wake up is the first day of our new life.
Enjoy the last few days at home, my friends and best of luck as you begin the new year! Happy New Year!!!! Until next time…
