Crufts 2013 – About The Judges

By Kerry L. Rushby

The Group Judges…

Today’s Judge will be Mr. Ben Reynolds-Frost – Judging The Hound Group

Ben was born into a dog family. His late mother, Diana Berry, had the famous ‘Sin’ kennels and his late father, Frank, had Champion Dalmatians just after World War II. Ben showed a keen interest in showing at the early age of 10, and after 40 years of exhibiting, he retired from the ring to concentrate on developing his judging career.

Ben started judging at the age of 15 and gave his first set of CC’s in Basenjis in 1976. He has since judged Basenjis in Africa, Australia, Finland, USA and Crufts. The love of his life has always been Whippets and he awarded his first CC‘s in the breed in 1987.

He is a sought after Hound judge specialist, and one of only a handful of British judges approved for all the sighthound breeds.

Ben now awards CCs to 25 breeds across 4 groups, plus the Hound Group, Working Group and Best in Show. He has judged in many parts of the world.

In addition, he has been Secretary of a hugely popular two-day Premier Open Show held just after Christmas for Luton CA. He has done this for the last 42 years.

Ben has been a member of the Kennel Club since 1981. He was the first Secretary of the Hound Club of East Anglia. He is a Life Member of the English Ibizan Hound Club & Luton CA. Ben’s main ambition was to judge the Hound Group at Crufts and he is looking forward to finally realizing this dream.

Aside from purebred dogs, his main hobbies include gardening, classical music, and jigsaw puzzles.
