In 1972 ten-year old Don Sturz showed his Golden Retriever Ch. Copper Kettles Headliner (Clyde) at his first Westminster, and made it to the Junior Showmanship finals.
In 2022, Sturz judged Best In Show at the 146th Westminster Kennel Club show, pinning Bloodhound Ch. Toot My Own Horn (Trumpet).
And on March 3, 2023, Dr. Donald G. Sturz became the Club’s latest President.
Three significant points in an arc of success. I caught up with Sturz on the eve of his departure for the Crufts show in England, to talk about the appointment, a life in dogs, and this year’s show. We’re on Zoom, but his warm personality, and crisp blue shirt, come through clearly.
