I don’t know if you remember, but quite a few years ago the mainstream media was suddenly flooded with stories about the sale of the world’s most expensive dog.

A lot of the information contained within these stories were pure hyperbole, but it did appear that a Tibetan Mastiff, “Big Splash”, was sold to a Chinese millionaire for nearly $2 million, making it–at the time–the most expensive dog ever sold.

The original photos of this very expensive mastiff (many of these pictures have subsequently been doctored by AI to make the dog look unbelievably huge and often highly aggressive) showed a large, eye-catching, powerful-looking Tibetan Mastiff of an extremely rich red color, akin to the coloration of a Chow Chow.

And studying the photos of this dog further, it does indeed suggest some Chow blood infusion.

Apparently, it was this rich red coloration that added to the dog’s staggering value, (as red and gold Tibetan Mastiffs are highly prized in China), and, subsequently, the attention this dog garnered sparked a Tibetan Mastiff craze with lots of Chinese millionaires suddenly buying up dogs for eye-watering sums.
