The March Madness Cluster At Edison, NJ

206 – June, 2025

By Amy Fernandez

I dropped by the Edison, New Jersey shows a couple months ago, and I am delighted to say these clubs are going strong. New Brunswick hosted back-to-back shows on Friday and Saturday, March 21-22nd, and the Bronx Kennel Club held their 102nd show on Sunday, March 23rd. A good part of the success is due to their prime location at the Raritan Convention Center. It’s costly but the tradeoff is lots of space and a relatively convenient commute from all directions.

New Brunswick President and Show Chairman Marjorie Martorella, a take no prisoners authority on show management, was delighted with this year’s turnout. “Entries are up by 50 dogs and we had handlers coming from as far away as Wisconsin and Florida for the first time. Word is getting around.” Friday’s entry topped out at 1,376, Saturday drew 1,712, and they had 1,532 entries on Sunday. Simply breaking 1,000 is no longer a sure bet today. That support reflects the weekend’s growing popularity.

That’s understandable because this show committee truly goes the distance. Bronx KC President, Lourdes Fernandez was stationed at her usual spot overseeing the show. When asked if she had been there since Thursday, she frankly replied that it felt like she’d been there since last year. That’s dedication.
