The European Dog Show

The Europe Dog Show was held in Herning, Denmark on May 18th-21st. Herning is a small city in the middle of Denmark, with about 40,000 citizens, but the Herning Messecenter is the greatest exhibition hall in Denmark.

The exhibitors and organizers were lucky with the weather, all four were pleasant with sunny early summer weather–and only on Sunday there were one or two small showers. In addition to the EDS, there were also parallel events, the largest of which was the Agria Winner international exhibition, with the breed groups exchanged with the EDS. This one was much smaller in number, it didn’t even have as many BIS programs, and its final winner was a Miniature American Shepherd (MAS).

The importance of the European exhibition is very important for European exhibitors. For Europeans there are three important exhibitions: the World Dog Show, Crufts and the European Dog Show. The WDS (if held in Europe) has 15-16,000 dogs and Crufts 18-20,000 dogs. While EDS is the smallest, it has 8-12,000 dogs depending on the host countries and other circumstances. These are usually such big entries that a good dog might only win once at such a big exhibition. At Crufts, there can be 500 to 600 dogs in one breed; at WDS or EDS, the maximum number of entries in one breed is usually 200-250. It is very rare that a dog can collect more WCH or EuCH titles. In addition, the exhibitor has even less time to obtain the Youth and Veteran titles. If the WDS is not in Europe, the exhibition value of the European Dog Show will increase.

Parallel Events: The Dog Dancing World Championship was held at the European?Dog Show in a separate hall. There was also the Junior Handler European Championship. It had a very large number of participants drawn from the daily competitions and delegates from the countries. There were also several club exhibitions, which were not organized here in Herning, but at other locations scattered around the area.
