Recently we attended Southern Counties, one of the premier shows on the UK circuit and it’s long been a favorite of mine; and visiting it allowed us to catch up with a number of friends that we haven’t seen for quite some time.
We made something of a family day out of it, too, taking my mother along, and she–being a huge fan of the Poodle–was instantly drawn to their ring.
Though not everyone’s cup of tea, they are a spectacular looking breed and watching their preparation is quite fascinating, the dogs clearly love the pampering and preening taking place!
The modern Poodle, displaying, as he does, one of the most elaborate coat trims in the show dog world, would appear to be a million miles away from his working ancestors, however the “fancy pants” sculptured grooming of today’s dogs is merely a refinement of a style that has been successfully deployed for hundreds of years.
