As you may have surmised from my surname, I have Irish heritage, and it will come as no surprise to hear that I am particularly interested in the Irish breeds.

My Grandfather, in typical Irish fashion, was a very entertaining storyteller; often infusing his tales with copious amounts of blarney, he would tell us kids that our family were once kings of Ireland…

At the time, I took these stories with a very large pinch of salt. However, in this bold assertion, he was quite correct.

Our family hailed from Connacht, and were, it is claimed, direct descendants of Conchobar, King of Connacht.

Interestingly, the name is said to translate to, “lover of hounds”. It was truly meant to be!
