Sporting Dogs Head To The AKC Museum Of The Dog In New Exhibition
The American Kennel Club® Museum of the Dog is thrilled to announce its newest exhibition, Honoring the Point: The Gwynne McDevitt Sporting Dog Collection. The exhibit will be on display April 2nd through August 31st. The AKC Museum of the Dog is honored to display the collection of Gwynne McDevitt, a noted AKC member and Gordon Setter fancier.
This captivating sporting dog exhibition explores a variety of dog breeds and subject matter, from portraits of Setters to Foxhounds on the hunt. This collection of 19th and 20th century works features noteworthy canine artists such as Marguerite Kirmse, Percival Leonard Rosseau, and Robert K. Abbett. “We at the National Sporting Library & Museum are grateful for the opportunity to travel this exhibition to the AKC Museum of the Dog,” says Claudia Pfeiffer, the George L. Ohrstrom, Jr. Deputy Director & Head Curator of the NSLM. “Gwynne McDevitt bequeathed her artwork to the NSLM because she wanted her stunning collection of Gordon and English setter artworks to be publicly accessible and appreciated. The MoD is a perfect venue for visitors to see this exhibition celebrating her love of art, dogs, and field trialing.”
This traveling exhibition was organized by the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSLM) in Middleburg, VA, and curated by Claudia Pfeiffer, the NSLM’s George L. Ohrstrom, Jr. Deputy Director and Head Curator. “The museum is pleased to once again work with our colleagues from the National Sporting Library & Museum to share this important collection of Sporting dog art with our members and visitors,” said Alan Fausel, Adjunct Curator for the AKC Museum of the Dog.
