Send Us Your #FormFollowsFunction Photos!

All dog breeds were bred to perform a specific purpose. We want to see our readers’ dogs doing the work they were bred to do to be shared on The Canine Chronicle!

Thank you Melanie Tipton-Fortney for sharing these photos of your Newfoundland, “Kizzy” (VN GCHS CH Timberknolls Kizzme Like You Mean It CD BN RN FDC CGCA CGCU TKA ATT FTN DD NW1 WRDX), doing what she was bred to do. According to the American Kennel Club, “Newfoundlands are peerless shipboard working dogs who specialized in dramatic water rescues. Newfoundlands are born swimmers, complete with partially webbed feet, and strong enough to save a grown man from drowning.”

The first photo was taken at a Newfoundland Club of America Water Rescue Dog Excellent Test. According to the Newfoundland Club Of America, “This test is for the elite working dog, who shows a drive and stamina and instinctive working ability beyond most Newfoundlands. The six exercises consist of searching for an abandoned boat, and returning it to land; rescuing multiple victims and returning them to a boat; rescue of an unconscious victim; a rescue of a victim under a capsized boat; delivering a line to shore from a stranded boat; and rescuing two drowning victims from behind a boat. Dogs who complete all 6 exercises earn the title of WRDX.” Kizzy is pictured on a very rainy day pulling in two “ hidden victims” who were behind the boat calling for help; they are hanging on to her dense double coat. The second photo was taken during the Newfoundland Club Of America Water Rescue Dog! Way to go Kizzy!
